Black on grey annoyance!

When I enter a message it types as black on grey which is nearly impossible to read. It displays white on brown once posted. How do I change the entry colors so I can see what I'm typing?

Attention Mike P: I think this will be a pretty easy fix. It's just the background color in the composition window. See the image, attached.

I changed my colors a while ago, I can't seem to find how to do it now. This is what mine looks like:

That would surely be better, I can't see anything this way.
