bleeding rear calipers 98 mark

Does anyone know if using mightyvac one man bleeder is effective to bleed rear brakes. If I replace rear calipers would this work w/out depressing brake pedal.

I've used it but found it a pain. I always end up having a friend over for a little leg exercise. Tip- get your self a can of ATE Super Blue Brake fluid. It is DOT 4 and synthetic (which helps it last and prevent rust), plus it is blue in color so you can tell when you are seeing the new fluid.

I have a pressure bleader, that I bought online. It hooks up to the master cylinder. Then I just open the bleader screws. Remember, the system is crossed. LF&RR, RF&LR.

I have a set of speed bleeders to. One questin these though. I can't help but assume some air is being sucked in since the bleeder is turned a 1/4 turn tio get it to flow. Regardless, they sure seem to work.

I think part of the reason that the Mityvac doesn't perform real well is that you are trying to pull fluid from the master cylinder all the way thru the ABS system and then on out the caliper, and that the ABS spool has to move in order for fluid to move on out the lines. By using the brake pedal and pushing the fluid thru the system, from the master cylinder, is a more effective technique. I also found that the leg exercise technique provided for desired & needed beer breaks.

I open the speed bleeders only enough to get flow and always be sure to keep the hose end immersed in brake fluid. Which means you have to start out with brake fluid in your container you are using as a waste container.

Found on my SC you can turn the key to on, open the rear bleeders and let the ABS do the rest. (I guess it senses the pressure drop and runs the pump) It's like a built in power bleeder! Not sure if it works the same way on the Mark, I know I have an older ABS system on the SC.

Need some stock lines, or are you going to stainless?

Thank you Doug! Yes I'm interested. I wasn't planning on going stainless since the car will never see rain/snow again and my garage will be climate controlled :D

Are you looking for fronts or rears?

I'm taking a set of rears off of a '98 within the next couple of weeks. I'm also taking off the fronts, but I need to keep the brackets, so I'll basically ruin the front lines.

OP - Sorry for the thread hijack

Doug,

I need the rear lines that go from the base of the firewall to the rear wheels. I believe that is all one piece correct?

Sorry, I misunderstood, all I have available are the rubber lines at the wheels.

No apology needed... I know you're crazy and all but I didn't think you were changing the hard lines to stainless on your car just because you can! :D
