Broke after the CAT.

Well, one job lead to another.
While removing my fuel tank this weekend the pipe between the CAT and the mufflers broke clean from the flange. sorry I cannot posta pic yet. I understand that the clamp ring comes with the pipe already which is where my problem lies. Pipe's good but the ring's broke.
I'll try to draw it for you:

where " = " is dual pipe and " - " is single pipe,

engine======CAT/break ---------=====mufflers

Anyone have a clamp combo idea to fix this without having to replace everything?

Can't it be welded?

Try having an exhaust shop have a look at it. May be a cheap fix.

Well, I reacon so...
It looks simple enough to do in my yard A.K.A. not paying someone to do something I can with common tools.

I'll swing it by Midas and see what they say...(I DOEWANNA! I DOEWANNA!) (~_~)

Here's a photo of a flange that I didn't use, this one was too big. I've bought them at Murray's auto parts and Advance auto parts. Some look a little different but they do the same thing.

I've used them on the passenger's side cat and on the resonator. I had to get a little creative on the cat one, I had to bolt a smaller one on the pipe, then use a bigger one behind it so the bolts would line up with the flange on the cat. I had to drill out the studs of the old flange so the bolts would go through. My old flange on the pipe was so bad that it just fell off.

I've still got the original exhaust on both of my cars. :D

I re-read your post and it looks like the flange connecting the pipe to the resonator is the one that broke.

That's the easy one. All you need is one of those flanges.:)

BILLCUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!

YOU!! My Friend ARE THE MAN!

Thanks, I was looking for something like that part at Home Depot...

:lodrules:

Glad to help.:)

The exhaust systems on these cars are amazing!

I've never had an exhaust system last 194k miles before.

So far the only weak spots I've seen are the flanges. Luckily they're cheap.:)

bill thats because its low grade stainless, it will still rust, but it takes much longer then your regular galvanized pipe. its even more amazing when you live in the south and have 197k on your car and the exhaust looks like its 6 months old!!

Well thanks again Bill!
I bought the 1-1/4" to 2" repair flange and 30min later, Nyghtshayd is a Ninja again! [XXXXXXX](--------------------/

Glad to help!

That's what this is all about. People that have been there and done that, sharing ideas. With the age and mileage of my cars, I've been there and done that a lot, and sometimes twice.:D
