Carlisle 2011 Ideas and ramblings

So... the wife and I were thinking of a way to get people to stop by the tent and one idea led to another...

The final(?) idea was to hold a contest. Pick a Mark VIII or other Lincoln on the showfield and post a display to "guess" the mileage on the odometer by stopping at the LOD tent and registering to win a prize (hopefully donated by one of our sponsors?). The prize would need to be relevant to most anyone attending the show (Ford car enthusiast). Discretely 'hide' the odometer reading by covering the instrument panel. People stop by the tent and register their 'guess' on a ticket with their contact info and deposit the ticket into a container of some sort.

With so many fine participant cars, many would be hard pressed to guess what the mileage would be. I would need to contact our sponsors and see what they would be willing to do to help out.

Also, we would like to continue the 'goody bag' gift to the first 25 registrants who choose LOD as their club affiliation. The intent here is to garner enough registrants to be able to have the Carlisle club tent free of charge on the showfield. With the trying economy, it is increasingly difficult to find contributors. We already have tee shirts and a handful of 'trinkets' to include. ANY help would be much appreciated. I would ask that whatever contributions are made that you please post or PM me with your intent.

Remember we need a quantity of 25 and it needs to be small enough to be contained in a yet to be determined bag of some sort with the club logo. I know Leo, Dean and others expressed interest in contributing before (wink, wink - hello?). ;)

I am also trying to get car flags made with the club logo for club participants to display on their cars - like the sports team flags you see on the way to the stadium every game.

Any other contributions to the tent theme (patriotic/red-white-blue) or traditional dinner 'raffle' would be much appreciated. Usually we have adequate refreshments for the tent thanks to all who share what they can bring for snacks and drinks and of course the club would reimburse upon request. :)

Another item to consider is a volunteer 'roster duty' to man the tent for attending to visitors. If we could have people sign up for say two hour "shifts", it would allow everyone to more freely enjoy the weekend without so much stress. I would like a volunteer to step up and take charge of this task.

I'm sure I am forgetting some other duties that need to be addressed, so feel free to post your ideas and comments here. :)

We only have 2 months to get organized, so step up and let's get the ball rolling!!!! :D

I think the guess the mileage idea is great... Canadians need not apply since they don't know what "miles" are! ;)

I get goody bag parcels all the time for my shows, as we get closer I'll be able to better tell what I can get for you. Most likely I'll have to bring it all with me.

I discovered something interesting last year at GM, many many registrants forgot or simply didn't bother to put the club affiliation when then registered either online or in person. So you need to do whhat I did and compare every pre-registered car with the list Carlisle can give us. Then also check all vehicles there and ask if they listed LOD. If they are strangers and didn't list a club affiliation ask them if they would like to list under LOD (no obligation to join) and add them to the list. Then give Val Stewart the list of names who didn't list LOD or aren't sure and she will update the list right away. If you don't think this works think of this... when I did this at GM so many names got added to the list that we actually finished in the top 5 clubs for attendance.

LOL, I guess we could be bilingual and include a converter for kilometers? :D

Thanks for any contributions Leo. It would be fine to just bring them along with you when you come to Carlisle. I wish I was closer to NY to be able to attend some of your shows.

Good idea on the register check. ;)

I know there are always a few Lincolns out there with no club affiliation.

:D

OMG!! I want one NOW...that would be awesome!

Thanks, JP!

I like the "guess the mileage" idea as well. Are we looking for a car with surprisingly high mileage? low? my '97 is somewhere around 180k (my Town Car turned 330k over the weekend!)

I love the car flag idea, and I have a couple thoughts on how I may be able to contribute to the goody bags. I'll do some research, and let you know if it pans out.

I definitely plan to participate as usual with the refreshments. I'll happily accept requests from Minnesota. (Or Wisconsin, or Illinois, or Indiana, or Ohio...)

If all else fails, we could fill Joe's car with Jelly Beans and have people "guess how many" :D

LOL. the 'empties' may leave the car equally sticky.. but does introduce a few more opportunities for shenanigans.

edit: oooh. "The Lincolns of Distinction Present: The Carlisle Bootlegger's Challenge!"

If we put a tarp or something down, I'm sure it'll be fine...

I've got a sunroof, so it should be easy to get them into the car... :D

Well, an idea for a prize may be some kind of cooler (we have this cool little one I got from Marlboro that Hubby says he wants but is still just sitting downstairs unused), filled with either car care items (maybe sample sizes) or even an assortment of refreshments and/or snacks?

Haha, freezer baggies or similar aren't expensive, no need for a tarp! That would be hilarious!

The show itself is Jun 3 - Jun 5, 2011, in Carlisle, PA.
Here's the website: http://www.carlisleevents.com/ce/events/ford-nationals/

When you register, be sure to select the "Lincolns of distinction" as your club. it lets you drink our beer, among other things. :D

I would say that the vast majority of club members stay in the Comfort Suites on Hanover street, where I know there is (was?) a block of rooms reserved under the club name. This hotel is closest to the showgrounds, but is more expensive than many.

Otherwise, plenty of folks stay in other places in the area, including some who camp. the campers will have to chime in for the current hotspots, if that appeals to you.

this link should show you most of the area hotels:

The expensive ones look really good. I can't imagine that they would make it through the weekend though. :)

Yeah, I totally want to sit on inflated plastic if it's 80 degrees out, and share that seat with 1 or 2 other hot sweaty people.

Can we just get ourselves some nice chairs for this year?
