OK so my check engine light came on in my 97marklsc, so I went to the shop and they told me its my catalyic converter or oxygen sensor. My friend thats is a mechanic said that it would smell like rotten eggs if the catalyic converter is bad, so it must be the sensor. So I unplugged the battery and it went off, but a cople months later it would turn back on. But today when I tryed to turn it off it just stayed on when I started the car.
Can someone please tell me if this is a diffrent problem, and if not where to get some oxygen sencors for a good price. Im new to the website and have only had the car for 4 months.

Your best bet would probably to find someone with an OBDII scanner and scan it for codes and see what the codes are. It sounds like an 02 sensor, but might not be. I have a 98 LSC with only 75k miles on it and i went and got exhaust put on actually today (i'm extemely happy with it) and we pulled the 3rd cat/resonator off and it was plugged, and when it was idleing and i revved on it just a little with the door open and my head out the door i could hear a rattling coming from the 3rd cat/resonator. It's made a huge different because i pulled that off and put on a magnaflow x-pipe/resonator. Anyways, that's off the subject. Get your codes pulled, if you don't know anyone with one, autozone or somewhere like that will usually pull the codes for ya for free (i think). Otherwise if not an 02 sensor it could be your 3rd cat, the cats on the manifolds i guess don't commonly go bad. Even if it's a bad cat though you can still get an 02 code. That's about all i can tell ya.

By the way, how many miles on your 97?

Oh, and my exhaust never smelt like rotten eggs, and my 3rd cat was plugging up.

Any luck LSCPEARLRIDER? I see you're from MN, i live in Northern MN as well.

Yeah so, I got my codes read, and they said that my catatlaic converter is below threshhold or some ****. I asked him if it could be the oxygen sencor and he said mostly likey not. I dont know what kind of bull**** sencors lincoln makes because I dont understand why the check-engine light would stay off so long, and then come back on again. I will just see how long it takes to come back on, even tho I will be replaceing the catalytic converter, when I figure out what kind of exhaust system I want. Thinkin flowmaster ? any suggestions?

SeaFoam the heck out of it first. It was designed to clean the cats, among other things. If after using an entire can you still have the problem then get them replaced. SeaFoam costs a few dollars...cats a little more.

Lincoln doesnt "MAKE" any sensors..

Lincoln USES motorcraft sensors just like the rest of FOMOCO.

I put 300,000 miles on my original 02 sensors, so I would THINK they weren't bull**** sensors.

Then you're doing better than most.

We get a lot of complaints on the board regarding CE codes related to O2 sensors on Mark VIII's with anywhere from 75K to 125K miles. The typical outcome is that they eventually replace the O2 sensors and the CE codes go away. Same thing has happened on both of the Mark VIIIs I had.
