Cheapest way to install aftermarket CD deck

RE: Cheapest way to install aftermarket CD deck

I'm gonna buy that same kit once I get my Kingston rebate in ($15!). Did the instructions makes sense? My instuctions were horrible, I couldn't figure it out. I can build a damn computer but I couldn't mount my freakin' CD player in correctly!

RE: Cheapest way to install aftermarket CD deck

So let me understand this, you wired this headunit up without bypassing your headunit amp or your JBL amp. Both of them are being used to power your stereo. Doesn't that cause problems? If you don't blow your stock amp, you would at least get static at higher volumes, right?

RE: Cheapest way to install aftermarket CD deck

I get a lot of distortion at high volumes, but I never play it that loud.

Yeah, starts to distort at higher volumes but I'm not playing it that loud either. Although I do hear a light thud when I turn it off.

The instuctions on the FDK1327 kit are very similiar to the other kit I had made by Scosche. They both sucked. haha ::roll::
Or I should say that they aren't very clear. They just say, for this make of car, use these tabs. Break off the rest and install.
Like a Hayes manual..... "replace starter buy unbolting and removing. Replace in reverse order."

There it is! No more fidgeting with the broken Sony 10 CD changer. I'm gonna use it with my old Pioneer DEH-P6400 and hook it up cheaply, not bypassing any amps like you guys did. I'll have to keep the volume down until I can get the nicer headunit (Nakamichi CD400 .. $300) that I want with an FDK1 harness.

Did you install it yet Sean? How'd it work out, any pics?

Just got the package today, tomorrow I will install.

My first impressions of the package? The dash kit is cheap. I got the one with the pocket underneath. The plastic bezel (seen below) to place over the radio for that "finished" look is not secured at ALL. It slips from the left to the right and can be removed with very, very minimal force. I also took a picture of the little 'nipples' they put in each corner of the rear side of it, that looks like they should be inserted into little holes on the mounting panel, but there aren't any holes. I may drill them myself. I also have the option of using the bezel that came with my Pioneer DEH-P6400 which snaps in right to the reciever, but I will see which looks better and then decide.

Don't listen to me though. I'm just really anal. I really can't wait to install it tomorrow. What should I expect from a $10, plastic, "ford compatible" aftermarket kit? I just wish there was something with a cleaner factory look without the bling bling of an aftermarket double din unit, you know? I just got this new car and I guess I'm trying to do everything right :7

RE: Cheapest way to install aftermarket CD deck

I know what you mean about the look and quality of the bezel. Mine was just laying in place, wasn't snapped in or in any other way secure. I went with my headunit's bezel but it looks out of place. I may just super glue the kit's bezel to give it the cleaner look.

Have fun installing it, and of course, post some pics for us!

RE: Cheapest way to install aftermarket CD deck

Two months later and I decided to get the dash kit you guys got. So you're saying the bezel doesn't stick on the deck securely? I don't like the crap one I have now and I like the way black97lsc has his set up. When I get the package on Friday I take some pics of the final installation.

RE: Cheapest way to install aftermarket CD deck

Unfortunately, the bezel that comes with the Scosche kit does not snap in securely. You'd have to glue it in place or something to keep it from coming off. I had it pop out while driving.
I currently have the bezel that came with the stereo in place just so that you don't see the metal from the stereo sleeve. I am on the lookout for another kit, maybe something that fits better.

As was posted by Sean, this kit is just OK. Maybe someone out there has seen or installed a better one? Most of the stereo shops I've gone to carry the same Scosche kit.

RE: Cheapest way to install aftermarket CD deck

Hopefully this new kit will look better than my old one. I'll do a before/after pic.

Okay, here's a crappy phone pic of the old setup. Oh, and the faceplate on the new kit doesn't pop off like you guys are saying. Maybe you need to push the deck down into the hole more?http://www.lincolnsclub.org/forum/user_files/360.jpg

Good job, looks very nice. My kit looks the same, I ended up glueing the faceplate/bezel in. Maybe I do need to pop it in further.
