Christmas Shopping HELP PLEASE!!!!

Ok, heres the problem: My father.
What do you get for the man who owns a hardware store? If hes not at work, hes playing with his horse. I usually get him parts for our "winter project" 1960 thunderbird, that I was supposed to take to my senior prom, 4 years ago.... Anyways, there really arent any more parts that I can buy him for that that are under $200 and I would like to mix it up a little. Im looking for anything crazy, fun, out of the ordinary or otherwise wierd that would make a good Christmas present. I have nearly finished all of my shopping save for my dad, whom I have nothing for...

Thanks for the help guys and gals.

RE: Christmas Shopping HELP PLEASE!!!!

Write him a letter, telling him what he means to you, and express the things that are sometimes difficult to say.

He'll keep & cherish it 4-ever. Long after anything else you purchase is broke, lost or forgotten. Get him a gift certificate from a store he buys things at. Cigars if he smoke them, are always appreciated.

Cadillac XLR (Oops, that's what I want) ~ Sorry :(

I'm in the same boat. WTF do i buy a man that has everything? My dad's primary interest is his boat, though. A 1968 Chris-Craft. He said anything for the boat is good. Problem is, if he wants something that i can afford, he buys it.

I took Sandy's suggestion for his b-day. I wanted to get him something nice, but i was on vacation in Vegas (the land of cheap trinkets), plus one of his best friends died right around his birthday. I found a nice little mirrored plaque with a stand on the back, that says "Dad" at the top and has a nice little touchy-feely message, you know, the stuff you feel but can never say to your dad. I got him that and a t-shirt to wrap it in. It cost me a lot less than i was willing to spend, but he liked it, and it's still sitting next to his computer.

Just as it is for me - trying to match a gift with a hobby is pretty useless. Either they have it - or they thought about it and dropped the idea.

Think of us - would you want a book on "How to fix cars" - just because you play with cars all day? Nope.

I would recommend something to eat or drink - a ticket to something with you holding the next seat - a handful of car wash gift certificates or oil changes - something painfully useful.

Although I do like Sandy's idea.

Take him and you out some where and have a good time "Mano-A-Mano. That way you have some time to shoot the breeze and catchup.

Matt, are you implying that I was an adult in the 1920's? :p

I am in the same boat with my dad. What do you get a man that can buy anything he wants? I finally found a music cd that he likes and doesn't yet have. I like Sandy's thought as well.

RE: Christmas Shopping HELP PLEASE!!!!

They just came out with repro door handles for the 1958-60 Thunderbirds. They run $140 a set from Bob's Bird House, Pat Wilson and other T-Bird vendors. If the ones on the 1960 project car are worn and pitted, these would replace them nicely.

I am a Squarebird enthusiast also, you can go for discussion and advice on these cars at http://www.squarebirds.org.

Thanks for all the great ideas everyone! Gives me some things to thing about! My dad and I are in FL right now checking out flight schools, so im missing the biggest shopping weekend of the season, but thats alright, we are having a good time and hanging out with my grandparents. Anyways, that will still give me a few days to try and get everything ready to go before Christmas!!

Thanks Again, and happy holidays!

RE: Christmas Shopping HELP PLEASE!!!!

i guess im lucky. my pops has multiple hobbys. i could either buy something for the L88 or anything car related for that matter or i could buy him something for home audio/video. i got him Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon on SACD this year. hes been asking for the regular album for years, and now he seems to have a boner for that SACD stuff, so i figure this will be perfect.
