Could I be overlooking anything else

After looking around these forums I feel my mark underperforming.

I am running a 14.2 at 97 mph in my 94 Mark viii

I have a 2 1/2 duel exhaust with 3.73 posi
Reinhart chip with 180 Stat
3200 PI coverter with trans cooler
80mm mass air with K&N air filter
Steeda underdrive pullies
Functional cowl hood
Drag radials

I am thinking something else is wrong so I replaced the O2 sensors. But nothing changed.

The car has 97k on it but has a remanufactured engine. The only thing weird about my car is that sometimes it will stall on the first start. After about 15 passes at the strip sometimes it will have a hard time idoling.

Thank you
Karl

I dont know if there are some other things to check out that could be slowing me down so any help would be appreciated.

I concur. Get a Walbro 255 lph fuel pump and adjustable fuel pressure regulator.

I agree also. My last trip at the track, I found the value of an AFPR. I kept upping the pressure a couple psi each run with positive results. When it leveled off, I cut it back a couple and was sastified I found what I was looking for. I think it was like 44-45 psi with vacuum removed. The gauge doesn't have to be 'accurate', it's just something to go by.

Your mileage may vary(literally).

RE: Could I be overlooking anything else

You like that 3.73? I would think it would need a little more.

RE: Could I be overlooking anything else

do you have stock spark plugs, wires, fuel filter, pcv valve etc? I would start with those things first and then get the Walbro...

14.2 @ 97mph is pretty darn good. Stock et is around 15.2. Think of it this way. 0.1 seconds is about 1 car length at the end of the quarter. So you have improved about 10 car lengths over stock. Not bad at all!

Especially if those are recent times in the heat and humidity of summer.

RE: Could I be overlooking anything else

Thank you everyone for the advice. I did all the usuall stuff like plugs wires PCV but never though of a fuel pump. I assume 255 is higher then stock but what is stock?

Mabey I am just being a little greedy. Those times are in the recent summer. As for the gears I do alot of long cruises and enjoy the lower rpm drivability. I have though of 4.10s but then I would have to get a new driveshaft.

RE: Could I be overlooking anything else

14.2 sounds about right for your mods. All you have that i would expect to noticeable increase performance is 3200 stall, 3.73's, and possibly underdrive pullies. And of course you shouldn't have any traction problems with the drag radials. I have a few more mods than you, a 3200 stall, 4.10's, drag radials, plus headers and a cobra intake, and i'm only going 13.9. So 14.2 sounds about right for what you have, especially if it was in less-than-ideal conditions.

RE: Could I be overlooking anything else

This is a comparison of your run to my best run with similar mods. My run was at 81 degrees. Most runs with that combo were in the 14.2 range. I've since installed ART headers and am running in the 14.0 range in hot summer weather.
