here's the story, this poor guy went to a ford dealership to downsize from 2 cars to 1... thus, he traded them both in for whatever he deicided was the best car/suv to fit his needs.. reason being, his wife (63 y/o) can no longer drive... from what im told, he's @ 58.... keep in mind, this all happened last tuesday.... 1st vehicle was a 97 explorer sport, 2nd was a 97 lincoln mark viii lsc, triple black with 46k on the clock. the dealer put this very tiny ad in the local newspaper at the bottom of thier full page flyer that no body really is going to noitce... i called and spoke to the sales guy and he says he wants 8 g's for it.... yeah, ok ... but, since its only a 10 mile run for me, i decided to take a ride to the dealership and take a peak.... i found it way in the back of the lot and they havent even touched it yet... its not cherry but it can be with some tlc and some time spent cleaning.... here's the bad--- the rear bumper has been repainted and whoever did it looks like they used spray paint, 2nd, the power steering pump is wet @ the output shaft leading to the pulley. 3rd, the parking brake cables are held above the rear with a zip tie.. i guess a bracket rusted away or something... now, it was raining off and on so the car was wet and from what i could see there wasnt 1 ding or dent anywhere on the car... i even did the rub down with my hand to feel if i had overlooked something and came up with nothing. now, the good, all the little inspection tags on fuel lines, brake cables, etc, etc, are there.. the lights are crystal clear, the cupholder/ashtray is fully intact and operate as they should... (the car was unlocked)... the stickers on the inside lips of the fenders match, the alternator cover is there, books r still in glovebox, mats still on the floors, spare tire is new and jacking tools are there and have never been used.... than a salesman walks over to me with the keys and i started it up and its purred like a kitten....come to find out, the guy bought it new in 97 from the sister dealership they own... he was kind enuff to pull the records and show them to me (thinkin im gonna buy it for 8 g's ). the car hd the blend door issue fixed back in 03, always took it to the dealer for service and inspection, even bought a set of tires for it (witch are dry rotted now). in pa, the mechanic writes the mileage down on the back of the inspection sticker every year... the owner put a total of 720 miles on it since 10/07. the guy claims that the car is wy to old to sell on the lot and their sister lincoln dealer doesnt want it either. not to mention, no bank is going to write a loan agreement for a 11 y/o vehicle... soooooooooo, they are going to wholesale it out this thursday at a inhouse dealer auction.. i guess this is how they get rid of the trade ins that cant be resold on the lot... anyways, as im looking at the history of the car page after page (4 total), the salesman forgot to keep his inventory list in his pocket and also put that in my hand while handing the services records over.. they gave this poor guy 3 grand as a trade in for the lincoln and only 800 bucks for the explorer. i guess it was beat and had a ton of miles on it... anyhow, in pa, you need a dealers license in order to bid at this auction and my uncle just so happens to be one... so, u can bet we will be there and hopefully i can steal this out from underneath the other guys... so, what do you think its worth? its loaded up along with the oem cell phone and heated seats... the chrome oem directional rims are perfect besides 1 missing the center cap....

Easy $5k ... I've been watching m8s on all the manheim and other dealer only auctions. If they have over 100k miles, they go cheap.

But the low mileage units still bring some coin.

Of course, I will be watching that one too ;) Let me know what's your limit so that we don't bid against each other ;)

i dont think its heading to manheim... i got the vibe that its more of a "in house" auction right there at the dealership... i could be wrong but thats the way it sounded to me...:p

hopefully, it'll be a cold rainy day on thursday and not 2 many guys will b interested in it... im not gonna hold my breath but ill be hoping for the best.. who knows, it only takes 2 bidders to know what the car is and its a toss up of what the other guy is willing to pay... we'll see!!

kinda like the barrret jackson feeling to the average joe. (minus the monster price tags)...

I know it's not on manheim. It's accessible thru my network and you can be that for many others as well, unless there are two black 97s with 46k miles in PA ;)

not me... i heard they were going to run it thru the shop and try to sell it own their own bc of the low mileage and being a lsc.... there will b other 1's out there... ill just keep lookin.. maybe ill luck out and find one on somebodys front lawn or somethin..... gets frustrating sometimes but thats kinda the thrill of the hunt.... makes it that much better once you get your hands on it...
