Does anyone have experience with car rentals in Europe?

So.. The subject says it all.

A buddy and I are planning a 3 week trip to Denmark/Sweden/Norway this spring, and want to drive rather than take the trains, so we can explore some out of the way places. We'd be flying in and out via Copenhagen.

Although I have plenty of US car rental experience, I've never rented overseas, and don't know if there are any tricks to be aware of.

I did start doing a little research on it, and found that Hertz wants about $400 for a VW "Up!" for 3 weeks.. which given the length of time involved, didn't seem too bad.

I searched a bit more and found a company I'd never heard of called "Sixt" that seems to rent their base vehicle (Toyota Aygo) for nearly half that. Or for just a little bit more, I can apparently rent a "Citroën C4 Cactus" Which is just about the craziest thing I've ever seen..

All thoughts/wisecracks/comments/wisdom, are welcome.
Thanks!
