RE: door ajar???

This has been talked about many times before and almost always, its a simple fix.

from the FAQ:

Q: My message center keeps telling me my door is ajar. It's closed, and it's definitely a door, not a jar. HELP!

A: Spray some WD-40 into the door latch mechanism in the door itself. This will typically make the message go away for quite some time. If it reoccurs, simply spray some more WD-40 on the mechanism.

check out LOD's FAQ, Great stuff.

RE: door ajar???

I learned that myself recently. I didn't know it was a common problem either so don't feel bad.

Did you spray both door latches?

RE: door ajar???

I think the trick is to spray plenty of wd40 and then open and close the door several times to limber up the mechanism.

That little latch engineering marvel ranks right up there with the rear window and all-in-one glass/seal product for our cars. Who thought up that?

RE: door ajar???

This might seem a silly question but have you removed the switches from the car and cleaned them or did you just spray them while they were on the car?
I would suggest taking them out of the frame and taking a wire brush to the back side where they ground to the car. You might also clean off the spot where they mount. - Don't use a wire brush on that part though of course or you'll be inviting a rust problem. - You can scuff up the inside diameter of the hole though without too much worry.

Also clean the contacts (both sides) - the base and the slide that closes the circuit. Spray some WD40 on them or better and work them heavily. Then dry most of the WD40 off because if you have too much in there you'll be completing the circuit with the liquid and telling the car that the door is open! ;) Once clean and dry, re-install and drive away.
