Door handles!!

Yes yes, I know, common problem and all that jazz. I've searched the forums and Google and can't really find anything about how to replace them. The only thing that I found was this:

http://www.lincolnsonline.com/tech/00148.html

which gives no insight whatsoever about how to get the door handle off in the first place! Anybody got any better write-ups or insight into how to replace the handle?

Super easy....

Remove door panel
remove sticky plastic sheet
remove little nut for door key pad
remove door handle rods
remove nuts on door handle
carefully remove door handle from outside without scratching paint. :)

LOOK BELOW....took 3 seconds using our search function. :D

haha I must've been tired. Even though I personally couldn't find anything, thanks nonetheless. I should've known you'd be the first to follow through, J!

Replacing these door handles is one of those things that is a royal PIA the first time. Once you getthe trick down it is easy.

haha alright. Now I just need to find a cheap toreador red door handle... not having a job makes sourcing parts tough. :(

The search engine can be tricky...I always use "Advanced Search" and just put one key word. :)

I've got a set of chrome Continental handles if you're interested....

Assuming they fit, lol. (Which I know they do, just reads kinda random) I have some yellow S2000 handles..... :p

so speaking of random door handles. Does anyone have a good line on a pair for a 1996 Cougar? I've got a co-worker who has broken both of hers, and is now "locked out" of her car. they seem different from the Mark ones, and are held in place with pop-rivets?

My current strategy is to hit the local salvage yard, and see if I can find two handles and a new driver's side window. (you know.. just in case.) thoughts?

Try TCCoA.com

They are indeed held on by rivets, BIG rivets, that I had to buy a special 2 ft. long tool to install!

TCCoA. why didn't I think of that??

I've seen that tool. back when I lived in River Falls, (small-town USA) I had to borrow it to install a new license plate bracket on the front of my Town Car. Somehow, I doubt my new local Ford dealer will be quite so accommodating.

I wonder what it costs...

Try a body shop.

Dam the luck I have to do my handle too cost 40 buck at ford now to get it painted and installed. I can still open my door but hurt my finger to pull the piece still attached to the latch. Have fun replacing ur handle.
