Door Lock Actuator taken apart

This is the second time I had to change a door lock actuator in a Mark VIII. I wanted to see why it failed so I took it apart. It was glued together so I had to use a "tonya harding" to open it. I was surprised to see 7 different gears in it, I thought it would be simpler than that. Luckily a friend of mine had the replacement rivet to put my good old one in easily.20250304_204123 (Large).jpg20250304_20360zzzz4 (Large).jpg

It's basically a triple reduction parallel shaft gearbox powered by a DC motor which in mechanical engineering practice is very robust and efficient. I would guess it's also less expensive than a solenoid given the stroke length and force required?
