Driving From Texas

I'm just curious if anyone else from Texas is going to Carlisle this year? I'm going to be leaving San Antonio probably Monday, May 26th, spend Tuesday night just East of Knoxville, TN, spend Wednesday night in Winchester, VA. Get up late Thursday and cruise to the Radisson, checking in around 3PM.

Hopefully I'll meet up with another club member along the way. If you're going and think we may be in the same approximate area on any of those days, please let me know. Since I'm a gentleman of leisure, my schedule is flexible.

I will meet you at the Radisson on Thursday, I am comming from the NYC metro area.

RE: Driving From Texas

Have a good and safe trip Lee. I'll see you at the Radisson Thursday night.

RE: Driving From Texas

Look forward to meeting you there, Lee. If you ever "jumped" C-141's, there's a good chance I gave you "half a ride" back in the late 70's or 80's ;).

RE: Driving From Texas

The majority were at Ft. Bragg on the 130's out of Pope. In 73 & 74 I was assigned to S.H.A.P.E. and we were allowed to hop the embassy courier aircraftfor leisure travel. Since we were a multi-national force we got 141's for jumps. I dropped jump status in 77. Once during reforger I hopped from England to Dover to Charleston on a 141, God that was a cold ride. The was just three of us in the entire cargo bay, most of the North Atlantic was covered by a storm so we were trying to fly over it. I didn't realize until then how much colder it is 45K ft. than at 32K. I did a lot of hop travel to the Far East, and Asia from 65 to 70, but mostly on C5's.

Looking forward to meeting you Bill.

RE: Driving From Texas

Sorry I can't make it this year Lee. I really wanted to do a mini-convoy. It would be awesome to see two Marks on the highway cruising together. Perhaps you will now get the long distance driving award.

You know the story Lee, but I will give y'all a brief reason for the cancellation. My mother-in-law is weeks away from death in Kansas, and I am kind of on stand-by. My wife will be driving up in to see her mom in two weeks, if not sooner. If she can, she need to wait until she gives her students their finals.

Also my 13 year old daughter is being congratulated with other students in Texas for scoring a 1070 on her SAT test. Since she was above average compared to high school juniors and seniors, Duke University is throwing the kids a congratulatory ceremony up in San Antonio on June 4th. Sorry, I would rather be there for my daughter's ceremony. I am real proud of her.

Unfortunately, Carlisle just won't fit into the schedule time-wise and money-wise. Maybe next year!

RE: Driving From Texas

Dean,

There's nothing that I could think of that would make me miss something for my daughter. When she graduated from college last year I spent a chunk of money to reward her for her acomplisments. Your girl will appreciate your being there. Carlisle will be there next year, you only get one chance to go to this ceremony with her.
Time goes by so fast, it only seems like yesterday that my little girl was just that, a little girl. One of my favorite pictures of her is when she was four at ballet class. Now she's 23 and engaged to be married late next summer.

Give me a call when you get up here Dean, and if you have time we'll at least get together for coffee. If we start planning now we can make it work.
