Drove an 08 Prius

Interesting point Tommy. I have always had some kind of odd aligment wear on my Marks throughout the years... I just had to make sure I didn't get staggered tires and rotate them through to maximise tire life...

The edges would wear out in the front as you mentioned... but I certianly noticed a decrease in ride quality when I went above 35psi so I tried to stay at or below 35.

but I certianly noticed a decrease in ride quality when I went above 35psi so I tried to stay at or below 35.

Someone else told me about using higher psi to save the tires. I tried it and did not like the ride at all. Lowered the psi after only a few days.

I run stock tires on the front and 245-50's on the rear so rotating tires isn't an option for me.

AND.. while on the topic of "rotating tires" I really "wouldn't anyways".

I see no point in exposing a tire to "all the bad things" from "all four corners".
Meaning, say you have an alignment issue affecting 1 corner of the car.
Why subject all four GOOD tires to the punishment caused by this 1 corner.

In the end, you'll need 4 tires rather than just replacing one.

For instance my fronts will wear the outside edges more than the center
The rears will wear the CENTERS and the inside edge.
If I moved my fronts with worn edges to the rear then the inner edge would wear out MUCH faster than if I hadn't brought "front tire wear" to the rear of the car and compounded the wear on the inside.

NOW... this is how "I" run "MY" car based on my opinions on Tire wear.
By no means am I saying this is the "ONLY WAY" to run "YOUR CAR".
it's "your car" and your money, do with it what you will.

Why do you run different sizes?

long story.. whew.

since I bracket race the car putting "FAT TIRES" on the front slows down the cars reaction time due to "more tire" being "in the beams" for a longer period of time when you launch.

Since the 245-50's are about 1 inch shorter it puts a wider portion of the tires "Circle" in the beams, thus slowing down the reaction time.

Since the 225-60's "go up in smoke" on the rear of my car, I needed to run the 245's to get enough traction to "launch the car".

with the 225's up front running between 45-50PSI I can use air pressure to increase or decrease my RT.

If my first 3 time trials have RT's in the .050 range I can increase the tire pressure by 5LBS and that .050 turns into an .010.
In my car 5LBS pressure is between .040-.050.
I was using those RT's for an example.

IF I am cutting .050's I AINT CHANGING ANYTHING!

But.. the same formula applies

Say I was cutting .060's or .070's.. increasing pressure by 5LBS will turn that .070 into an .030 or .020 which is "right in the groove" if you ask me.

When I had 245's on the front I would have to "prestage, then stage, THEN bump into the stage beam twice" and HOPE I didn't turn off the "prestage light".

With 225's up front I stage SHALLOW as possible and dont have to do any of that guesswork/bumping into the beams crap.

bumping into the staged beam is a "fix" but it's not "consistant" and can very easily cause you to "deep stage" which at some tracks will disqualify you with a RED LIGHT unless "deep staging is allowed".

So... there you have it.. 225's on the front for better RT's and 245's on the back for better 60 foots.

ALSO if I run my first three time trials in the daytime and I cut .030 or better in the daylight?

I will go pull 5LBS of air OUT of my fronts to "slow down my RT" because I have about a .025 swing in RT's from daytime to nightime.. since my eyes "pick up the bulb faster in the night than in the day".

So.. and .030 light in the day will turn into an .005 light at dark which.. is TOO CLOSE TO RED for me.

I typically will shoot for .040's or .050's in the day, knowing they will be quicker reaction times when night falls and will be in the .015-.020 range

That is where you see ALOT of people REDLIGHT later as the race goes on

They might have had .050 lights in the day and they work all thru the race to "get better off the tree" then night falls and BAM, THEIR RED.
Gotta be consistant to be consistant!!!!
I generally dont "change" anything other than tire pressure when trying to change my RT.
Trying to "leave sooner" only creates more inconsistancies..and in the end.. REDLIGHTS
