DOHC MARK VIII

Registered
Ok it wasn't my Mark VIII but my '03 Mach I. Has 4,000 miles on it and is really totally stock, no mods at all yet. What I'm getting at is the 03-04 Mach 1 motors can be had with automatics and and would probably make a great motor in a Mark VIII if you were in need of a new motor. These motors have the same head and cams as the 5.4 liter DOHC 32-valve Navigators. They have tons of lowend tourqe and are not "peaky" like a Cobra motor, yet still redlined at 6800 rpms. I think it's also the same motor in the new Lincoln Aviators and Mercury Marauders too.

Interesting. Today while working at UPS, Boringggggg, I was deciding on which motor I should buy in a couple years. Mach 1 would be an awesome choice if all fits properly. I'm going to look into this; Geno fill us in on some of this.

If you get a mach 1 engine, make sure you get one that was mated with a manual transmission. The manual transmission models have a forged crankshaft, the automatics have a cast crank like the mark viii.

My Youngest Son Bought A Mach I last year. It is really a fun car with a 5 speed. I take it for a drive every once in a while.
I have thought about getting one of those engines when Mine gives up also. I'm up to 202 thousand now. It runs so good though I'm thinking I have about a 100 thousand more miles to think about it.

Dave, that's what I thought too, but I've been told that they have the same Ford part number. The 5-speeds are redlined at 6,800 rpms but seem to run quicker if shifted at 6,300 rpms. The automatic's are redlined at 5,800 rpms but actually automaticlly upshift at 6,300 rpms when using WOT. The auto Mach's dyno about 260 to 265 rwhp and run in the high 13's while the 5-speeds turn mid to low 13's and dyno 270 to 280 rwhp completely stock.

I'm also told that you can buy these motors brand new for around $2500 if you shop around. :)

"The Marauder is a drop in. Go to http://www.karkraft.com/engines.htm to buy one!"

Except the intake is in the wrong direction.

That 03 Cobra engine is calling my name. Would an '03 work in a Gen. 1, or would our stupid computers mess everything up. What other modifications would you have to make while swapping this engine. For example, new Trans. and etc....I wouldn't believe you could run it off the stock trans.
