Electric seats

I've just ordered a workshop manual but am stuck with a problem.

I am in UK and own a Mk VII LSC in white with maroon leather. I love it to bits and there are only a few over here.

I was cleaning car and laid back the passenger seat with door switch but the switch broke and I can not raise the seat up again.

I know simple electric motors and I have taken the seat out. Can anyone please help and look at their diagram for me and tell me which colour wires I have to apply current to at the multi plugs to get the seat to raise up for short term measure.

Long term no scrap yard Mk VII's here in ENgland. Can anyone please help by directing me to where I can get a switch from at reasonable cost.

It is my intention to keep this car for years to come so need to get it right.

Many thanks from this side of the 'water ' !!!!

RE: Electric seats

www.car-part.com will allow you to search US scrapyards for a part. It might be tough finding one that'll ship to the UK, but it's worth a shot. I don't have any electrical diagrams for mark 7's, but if you find the motors and trace the wires you should be able to figure it out. I had to do something similar on my old mark VIII, i think i used a battery from an electric drill and a piece of wire to move the seats where they needed to go.

RE: Electric seats

Paul,

I had a similar problem with mine and all I did was sprayed some electronic cleaner in the switch (just stick the plastic nozzle in opening from the outside while moving the switch back and forth). I found out that the contacts on the switch had a little corrosion on them from not using them in a while and the cleaner was able to loosen it up.

RE: Electric seats

If you haven't solved the problem yet, here's how I solved EXACTLY the same problem with my '88 Mark: the switches on both doors are interchangeable. I took the switch from the driver's side and plugged it into the passenger side, raised the back and positioned the seat where I wanted it to STAY forever, and then returned the driver's switch. Dealer wanted nearly $200 for a replacement. Now, my passengers have to be happy with immoveable seat, but it is generally comfortable. One less thing for them to play with. Btw, the window moter on pass. door also burned out for the third time (track was misaligned at factory, not easily corrected), so I got the window up and disconnected the motor inside the door. Another thing less for the pass. to play with!!

Hope this helps solve the immediate problem, tho not back-to-like-new, it makes things useable.
