Engine beauty cover ideas/project?!

I finally picked up another beauty cover for my '94 and was thinking of an idea to see if I can screw this one up too!

My idea was to use just the rear portion of the cover (wiper cowl side) and round off the edge where it connects to the other half and paint it body color like the air intake is already on my car. Maybe graft in the Mark VIII words on the right side? It would cover the ugly stuff in there and show off the Taylor wires and alternator in there!?!

I guess the biggest question I have is, does anyone know what material would be best for making the new 'edge/lip' or grafting in pieces? Will fiberglass 'stick' to the cover and will it last under the hood (temps?)

Thanks for any suggestions and tips for helping with my winter project (well, one of many!)
Jon

driller, your right, I guess I'll have to check out some of the bodyshops around and supply stores and see what they say.
I even posted this on a couple auto body forums but haven't heard anything at all from them :(

Yeah fiberglass will work. Use the fine mesh stuff for that. Way easier sanding it to polished finish and wetting it down to take the shape.. Attach the two underneath with duct tape or thin aluminum with mini screws to get it where you want it, then use this strips over layed and wrapped around the edge to the bottom. The remove the screws and aluminum strip when dried and sand away. Also "foam core board" is awsome for making molds for your rounded corners. Make the mould by carving it and snding a block of the foam core, then coat it with a separator, or (i use tons of turtle wax till its slick and greasy. Then you have two perfectly moulded corners for the front half too. The foam core comes in 4X8 sheets and you glue little pieces together with Elmers glue to make a block you carve and sand for the mould.
Thats how i made my first custom 4" intake on my mark. In two halves. then sanded the edges with dremel, and wrapped all around the tube when glued togther with thin fiberglass. Worked great till i switched to the C&L aluminum one.

Thats great info Sierra3, thank you! :)
My main worry was wether it would take the heat under the hood or not, but it looks like I don't need to worry.
