Got the Magnaflow delivered yesterday despite UPS's best efforts to lose it. Spent this a.m. finding a custom (read: willing to play fast and loose with the cat) exhaust shop. Had the good-old-boy that owns the place cut it all off from the bottom of the downtubes back, and weld in the Magnaflow dual in/out x-pipe. Then had him bend up a pair of 2.5" straightpipes (how's that for an oxymoron?) and stick my original tips back on. Total cost $200 in labor at the shop plus the $85 for the pipe itself.
This thing now sounds like the musclecar it really is. I was a bit leery of just the magnaflow with straightpipes, based on another member's experience. But I figured if it was too loud, I could always go back for a pair of mufflers. Not gonna happen. I *love* the new sound. It's like a Mustang GT or Cobra, but silkier, not as raspy. Spent an hour just driving around (city and highway), radio off, windows down, sunroof open. A sweeter tune has not been written. Stereo? Who needs a stereo?
I just wish I could somehow annex all that empty muffler space for my trunk, though.
Any of you California types want a third cat with 56K on it? I'll probably put it in the parts section today. Check there if interested.
Picked off the lettering on the neon brakelight while it was on the lift too, just for giggles. Looks nice with a clean decklid.
Happy Motoring,
Michael
