first lincoln

hi , im john , and this 95 town car is my first lincoln.
a good friend had a 95 mark viii and i fell in love with that car.

not really a car guy , but more of a truck fan , and have been using ford work trucks for decades they built this country...

ive dabbled in japanese off roaders for awhile , and i also have an isuzu rodeo that claims to be a honda....(the engine needs out-of-car work, which led me to look for another car)....

i couldnt resist the screaming deal i got on this town car , and it seems to run just fine so far.... the air ride has been converted though =[ , there are some minor issues....
2 small dents , radio sucks out loud (i live where there are 0 decent radio stations) , tires are tired .... i read on this site that all mark viiis have 17 wheels..... mine has the alum wheels ive seen on so many , but they are 15 ; and the tires are 215x70 , and baloney skins ..... the passenger window appears to be unhooked (you can hear the motor work) , and the cruise control is broken (button is in the glove box).... the clear coat of paint has all but left the car.....

were talking next to nothing here , and that also what i paid for this car....

im looking forward to learning all about this incredible machine =]

ill post pics as soon as i can =]

here are some pics (i hope)

i really like this car (i hope that doesnt prove to the world that ive gotten old)

looks best from this angle

100_2561.jpg

i think the powerplant is in very good shape for its high mileage.

cruise button broken off .... heater and radio remotes dont work either

100_2559.jpg

lotta miles . the air suspension has been converted ....but i want to kill that warning

100_2558.jpg

headlights are frosty

100_2556.jpg

if anything , it sits a little high with those coils

100_2555.jpg

a few dings on the passenger side ..... i do have the other wheel , but not the center cap.

100_2554.jpg

this is where the compressor would be , if there was one?
i found a switch here and a wiring harness with nothing to plug into.

i live in the mountains , and the radio reception is horrible.
the analog radio had a cassette securely jammed in it , and the 'off' button didnt work,
but all four speakers sounded ok , so i hooked them to this eclipse amp , and an mp3 player or cd player.

100_2553.jpg

a small split in the leather drivers seat back ..... the passenger window doesnt go down .... the motor sounds like its working ok.

100_2552.jpg

just noticed this .... previous owner took the door apart , and never put it together right.

100_2549.jpg

worst dent on the car ..... im going to try to get behind it , even if i have to pull the fender. its dislocating the hood , and chipping the paint....

there are also two tiny bullseyes on the windshield , but the car passed and is good to go. i'll get a kit for the windshield.

the two stage paint needs help ... the clear wants to be clear off of the car...

Welcome! :)

Town Cars are some of the longest living Lincolns still on the road. Bit by bit I am sure you can restore it to it's full potential. ;)

thanks for the warm welcomes ....

i'll get back to you on the amp model ...
the model no doesnt make sense... its like 3420 or some such....
ive looked it up and its 60x4 and gets mixed reviews...i really like it...
but i just wanna hear clear music , i dont much care about shaking the pavement...
i think those are the folks who are disappointed by the eclipse

the amp is a 3640.

lincoln had its very first episode today.
this morning , i started it at it stalled when the heater kicked on.
it didnt wanna restart , but did in neutral.
then later , it wouldnt start at all , sounding starved for gas...
i thought it was the antitheft system...killed the battery trying to get it going.

i got starting fluid and a fresh battery and it started ... nothing came out of the fuel rail bleeder..... and when i broke the engine side of the filter , gas came out....

i pulled the fuel relay and popped the ac one in its place.... started fine , so i got a new relay , and a haynes book...... first breakdown , i didnt get dirty , and it only costed 12.00

That's a common FLM malady.

Welcome! What a great find, even with a couple dings. A great color, too! (I'm biased.) a little maintenance, and you are sure to have a good, reliable vehicle. From the looks of the lights on the dash, you might have another project or two in store for you, but the folks here are sure to have the answers. I sure do love those digital dashboards though!

For comparison, here's my 1986 version... turning 300,000 :)

i donno what , in particular was the cause , but when i first started the car , the 'check engine' light wasnt on.

then when i picked it up , it was. the previous owner said it was always on....
i put about 150 mi on it , and the fuel relay died.
i bled the fuel rail valve (nothing came out) and broke the fuel line at the filter.(something came out) , and changed the relay.... one of those things set the light back off..... i never got a chance to read the code(i dont have a reader)....
im sure ill see that light again, tho.

thanks .... there isnt an auto zone near me , but there is an advance , and i believe they read codes free too. i'll find out next time im in town (if the light is lit).

i gotta say it.... i have a beat up honda passport , and i often drive my sisters 06 vue.

most people ignore the vue completely , act as if it isnt even there.... its good that the vue is pretty quick , or it would have been hit long ago.

they see the old isuzu(honda) , and its nothing but contempt... they HAVE to pass it , cut it off....its actually frustrating to drive...

the town car is an entirely different driving experience... people let it out of a sideroad,
no one rushes to fill a space in front of it... cops dont look at it crosseyed every time they see it.... its funny , because if anything , i drive it slower than i drove the honda (you have to drive the standard/4cyl/suv hard in the mountains , or you will top every hill in 2nd gear)...

i have no answer for this , but i like it ...

To get rid of the suspension warning, there are two places at the RH lower side of the instrument panel to access the wire from the suspension module (or the harness connector to the instrument panel), where you could nip the correct wire that signals the air suspension warning indicator.

If you're interested. ;)
