Circles are cyl bores , numbers right and left , are Chevy and Ford cyl Numbers ....Letters represent the Bore with either number ...Chevy and Ford ,distributer in the rear, firing order are at the bottom with there corresponding bore letter..Ford distibuter in front firing order is different because rotation is reversed.

RE: Food For Thought

that firing order looks the same to me. Just one starts with "E" and the other starts with "A".

RE: Food For Thought

i was going off of information related to the distributor i was also thinking of it difrently but i still dont see your point how is this any help. beside i can change the firing order in a eec any ways.

Umm... unless you can change the crankshaft design in the EEC, i don't see how you're going to accomplish this.

RE: Food For Thought

All in fun Dan , I don't think anyone has ever answered yes to this question .And Fords later firing order doesn't even fit the statement 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8 , because for some reason Ford changed the cam and fired the motor 180 Degrees out of phase from early firing order..they fire from the back forward instead of from the front back ... I got involved when I was questioning header extraction workings,in an effort to build the ultimate set of headers and make a million dollars ..I realized that to work correctly ,not practical , but correct , bores f and b need to cross over to the other bank header ,to provide 360 degree extraction..Hows that for cool ..
HA Ha still an average joe just have a better understanding of headers ..Is any of this information useful maybe , are any of us really going to use it probably not .

..BUT ITS FOOD FOR THOUGHT....

RE: Food For Thought

I think I remember Ford having an engine (Indy car?) with the heads reversed so the intake was on the outside and the exhaust was toward the center. The exhaust was one unit called the "bundle of snakes" and took advantage of the scavenging effects.

RE: Food For Thought

It wouldn't surprise me Jack ,the potential seems good. The problem I had when I tried on a Chevy , besides the obvious construction problems , was the two cross pipes became too long and the scavenging timing was wrong ,and the effects were less than I expected..I also raced open engine boats ,V8 427 , with the headers turned upside down. I always wanted to try again as it was much easier to keep pipe length equal, when you don't have to go around things , never did though ...Wouldnt be such "A Bundle of Snakes " on the boat.I am sure others have tried , it has potential to make large gains all through the range.

RE: Food For Thought

hmmm i dont think any of this can help us in any ways and i am not shure which firing order you where using. you can reprograme ecu to change firing order. i have seen a stock lighing ecc run a 514 big block and some other weird stuff like that before. i still didnt see the orignal idea helping any but main because i would not swap engine for just changing firing order or distributor postions. new ideas can come up with big numbers though and it cant hurt to try some times.
