You can use one of several software packages this year to file your taxes from the IRS site. I used turbo tax, no charge to e-file and you can itemize, it is no longer restricted by your level of income or EZ forms. However if you want to e-file your state it is $19.99 if you use turbo tax. After I punched every thing in the state was just about ready to go so I paid the money, it was worth it to me. Guess that is how they expect to make their money.

Also you if you owe money on your fed taxes you can use a discover card at no extra cost now, in the past you had to pay a service fee. If you have a refund coming you can have it wired into your account.

No, I think some you can download, in the case of turbo tax you do it right over the web, nothing to buy.

Can you calculate it all up and see the totals - perhaps even print it out, without actually having to file it right then? It'd be nice to see what it comes up with compared to your tax preparer, or to doing it yourself by hand out of the book.

I guess I'll have to give it a look - what with buying a house this last year, I know my taxes are really going to be crazy compared to what I'm used to...

I too used the "program" at turbotax.com, it sure is user friendly, and calculates everything for you, before you file.

tax slayer

have for 4 years now.

$9.99, and once it gets submitted to state/fed, they take 10-18 days to process, and submit refund.

Got my state within 7 days, and my fed within 12.

Of course, I use standard deductions, nothing fancy, 1040-A, and 540-EZ.

no frills here, dont own, dont have write-offs, and dont make a whole lot.

My dad is a CPA and he uses TurboTax. gets the new one every year. he always does my taxes. last few years he has efiled and i've had my refund direct deposited. the feds direct deposit my paycheck anyway.

Taxslayer is only free if you are age 25 OR younger OR 61 or older, OR active in the military, OR if you qualify for the EITC.​

Oh yea... forgot to mention that:
$9.99 for me.

Turbo Tax isnt free though, is it? I saw it at Costco, State only, for $34.95
and fed was $56.95


oh well...$9.99, online, direct deposit, 20 minutes of my time, and its done.
