Frozen doors

Greetings,

What with the ill weather we have been having lately, and just generally really cooooold nights, the doors seem to be getting frozen/stuck to the seals.

Any stuff I should wipe on to the seals or the doors to help cut down on this problem.

Thanks,

SC

RE: Frozen doors

you can try a little silicone grease on the door seals, but that might be messy. the best thing to do (other than not driving your mark in the winter) is to unlatch the door at the handle, then grab the top of the door and pull it open there. If you pull to hard on the door handle it'll break off in your hand.

RE: Frozen doors

In addition to the above, I wipe each door seal with a rag that has been saturated in WD-40. This works incredibly well. After two seasons, I haven't seen any discoloration of, or damage to, the door seals.

RE: Frozen doors

Spray the weatherstriping section that goes where the door curls onto the roof with Pledge funniture polish. It's clear, non greasy, and has a pleasant smell. Never pull on the the door handle. Don't rub the pledge "in" (or off) ~ just a light mist & then leave it.

RE: Frozen doors

Before a storm I always wipe both sides of the door weathersripping with wd-40.
Never failed yet.

RE: Frozen doors

Good tips guys! I've been having the worst time with my doors freezing shut this winter.

RE: Frozen doors

It happens to me when its either really cold, or really hot.

I think the owner of pledge is going to sue Sandy sometime soon :)

Sandy: I use it for everything!!

Owner: ITS FOR WOOD ONLY!! SAYS IT RIGHT ON THE BOX!

RE: Frozen doors

Pledge is a multi purpose cleaner, it cleans dust off of any surface and does a good job. Says so right on the can.

RE: Frozen doors

You could also use silicone gel that can be purchased from most professional electronics shop.

Sandy and Pledge is the like the father in "Big Fat Greek Wedding" with Windex. I have visions of him running around spraying it on everything.

OK. Now I'm curious...

What is in Pledge anyway?

RE: Frozen doors

A combination of silcone and lanolin and aloe vera, when combined has an astonishing lasting value and an incredable amount of "slippery" and the lanolin acts as a sealer/coating. I sprayed it on my Mark 8 every December and I never had a door stick, and if you recall, Winkin lived in the driveway, as the Fleetwood & McLaren shared the garage. Thru freezing rain, snow, ice - whatever, my doors never once stuck or froze closed. I also never had a broken off door handle. The stuff is great when used sparingly and on porus surfaces. Use just a little in an even mist spray. The sealer quality comes in when used on leather seats. 5 years old, just ask Dr. Dave about my car's seats....Like Day-1 and I am NOT skinny ;)
But, on the seats you have to paper towel it in and buff it out. NEVER use on dirty seats, or you seal in the dirt! Seats must be showroom clean, before you Pledge it.

RE: Frozen doors

Regarding the door handles-Yes I know. About three months after I bought it, I was being the nice guy and opened the door for my girlfriend. I didn't yank it, or tug it, just the usual pull. Boy that was most irritating, and very embarrassing.

But yeah, I might have to try to WD-40 thing as WD-40 would seem to have more uses overall on the car.

Thanks for all the replys!
