Fuel smell

People are telling me there is a fuel smell when my car is running. It seems to happen when I first start the car and eventually goes away as the car warms up. Does anyone have an idea on what might be causing this?

The CE I had suffered this same issue. I can't seem to find the info, but it was supposedly the evap system purge solenoid located in the passenger side fender well.

It does seem to smell more on that side. Is this in the rear or front fender well? I have never changed this part before.

I do believe that's the part.

Here's the thread Driller was probably thinking of. It's actually my old car, but owned by another club member now. I do think that part resolved it for him, but it isn't super clear. (skip to page 2 for the good stuff.)

That link loaded in some xenforo site. I was able t follow it, but could not view the pics well. Thanks

Hyde gets the smell, Jeremi told me that he would diagnose over the phone, likely the evap lines in the passenger wheel well needed to be swapped around. Never did anything about it. I'll investigate the link provided above and see if it's the same issue as mine.

So in preparation for my new Garage(s) (comes with a house) I have ordered one (1) Motorcraft CX-1687 Purge Valve. Will be my first work done in the new garage. Do not close till June 14th though, so no update for a while.

Congrats on the new place, and the new purge valve! (in that order)

Can't wait to hear about both.

changing the valve seems to have worked. One of the hoses probably needs to be replaced as it has that rough carbon powder feel. Is a special hose needed for EVAP line?

Any rubber line rated for contact with fuel should get the job done. I bet if you hit up the local auto shop and ask for "PCV line" they'll probably have something that will work.
