My gas gauge is not working the tach one and the electronic one i just got my mark VIII and i put like 10 bucks worth of gas in it but the gas level didnt rise and the mile till empty keeps going down someone told me it might be a float in the gas tank but i dont know PLEASE HELP

RE: gas gauge

im not sure what your saying about the tach--if tach an gas guage dont work, might be the instrument panel

RE: gas gauge

I think he means the mechanical guage on the instrument panel vs. the electronic guage in the message center(i.e. fuel economy and range functions). Regardless, they both use the same signal and share predominately the same wiring.

This seems to be one of those things that plagues some cars more than others. It could be a ground problem or a problem with the float and/or sending unit in the tank. IMHO mine gets better with use and less reliable when not driven much. Extended parking on an incline will also cause erroneous readings.

RE: gas gauge

AH --- Ok both arent working then I would look at the float first

RE: gas gauge

how many gallons did you put in 5? some times when i put in very little it dosent show up for a awhile

RE: gas gauge

If you don't turn the car off when refueling you will not get a proper reading right after you put it in.

Article No.

GAUGE - FUEL - ELECTRONIC - INCONSISTENT/INACCURATE FUEL INDICATION - DISTANCE TO EMPTY READING INACCURATE - VEHICLES BUILT BEFORE 10/1/93

LINCOLN-MERCURY:
1993-94 MARK VIII

ISSUE:
Inconsistent or inaccurate fuel indication readings or inaccurate distance to EMPTY readings may be displayed. This occurs because the fuel sender card calibration and message center software programming need revision.

ACTION:
Replace the fuel sender and message center for 1993 models. Replace ONLY the fuel sender for 1994 models experiencing this concern. Refer to the following service procedure.

If Service Manual diagnostics do not identify any concerns, perform the following:

^ 1993 Models - Replace the message center with new part (F3LY-10D898-A). Refer to the 1993 Mark VIII Service Manual, Page 13-08-22, for the removal and installation procedure. Also, replace the fuel sender with new part (F3LY-9275-B). Refer to the 1993 Mark VIII Service Manual, Page 10-01-14, for the removal and installation procedure.

^ 1994 Models - These vehicles were built with updated software in the message center. Replace ONLY the fuel sender with new part (F3LY-9275-B). Refer to the 1994 Mark VIII Service Manual, Page 10-01-10, for the removal and installation procedure.
