Gen II Mark VIIIs vs Gen Is in gas mileage?!

"I use the "instant mpg" on the mark 8 the same way."

...except for those "rare" WOT events!!! LOL

I reset my average while AT the track one time

After the event I had made it up to 9MPG which is better than alot of trucks get on the hiway..HAHA

So when asked about mileage..I always say.. it depends.
hiway=25-30
city=20-25
dragtrip = 9

isn't in amazing how "little air pedal" you can put into these cars and they actually accelerate?

using my "instant mpg" and my Garmin GPS I can see the MPH start to creep up .1 of a mph at a time.. and I'm adding little or no "air pedal".

on the same note..have you notices how far you can "let off the air pedal" and still hold a steady speed?

I'm sure people "could" get ALOT better mileage than they do..
if they just "paid attention" to the little things.. like TENTHS of a MPH!
But.. good luck with that on your stock speedometer.
HAHA

AIR PEDAL *grins*

WTH is an air pedal?

JP, 24 MPG round trip is pretty awesome! I average 22 at 75mph.....

The Indy trip was mostly level terrain and with the Mrs. aboard, the driving was fairly sedate. I've had other trips with the 4.30s to different geographical locations and averaged 22 mpg +/-. And like I said before, in mountainous terrain and a all day pass at the track I still average 19 mpg even with the 4.30s.

So for a full size luxury coupe and modified track vehicle getting the mileage I do, I can't complain.

Nice....and people worry about gas mileage with 3.73's or 3.90's, haha. The way I look at it....you need less pedal effort to get the beast going now, so you're actually "saving" gas. :D

Air Pedal is what a very well respected tuner that used to come around the mark 8 boards called the accelerator pedal, since in todays cars that pedal only allows more air into the motor.

Ahhhh.....that makes since. I was thinking some Neumatic Air ram used for precise throttle movements, haha. Kinda like the throttle stops on hot rods in the electronic class.

I like Loud Pedal better. :D

I am going to use that term!

I have not reset my mpg for 10,000+ miles. I've had a couple 800 mile road trips (80+, Not good for mpg), but mostly for daily driving.

I'm at 21.9 using 91 in a 98 LSC. I'm careful on the throttle, but I will say I have no trouble getting up to speed on the on ramps.

Tommy is right ;less air at 4k to 7K ft = less fuel used ,also less power even with the pedal pushed harder;also less wind resistance at speed ;75+ as the interstates are up there . On my 2002 trip;4,600 miles I never reset the MPG readout until the trip was completed. It read 25.5 and when I calulated it by hand it was 26mpg for the whole trip from Baton Rouge thru TX,NM,CO,WY,ID,AZ,NM,TX,&LA. This also included driving through the parks and some towns,but mostly at 70 to 80mph;on the interstates.
