Give a Bird a Home???

Pauly is a five year old Yellow Headed Amazon. Tame, talking, and just an all around good bird. Unfortunately, I have asthma that is worsening, and I can no longer be around him without having problems breathing. I don't want to sell him, I can't sell a friend, but I do have to find a good home for him. He'll live another 30+ years so it'll be a long term thing. He has a large (5ft tall) California cage that you would need a pick-up or other large vehicle to haul with, but I can get the bird and his smaller cage to you. If you can help please let me know. I tried to get a picture of him up but had problems. If interested I'll email pics to you.

Admin: I didn't put this is "For Sale or Trade" because he's not vehicle related aand fewer people look there.

RE: Give a Bird a Home???

I just called a place here in NJ that accepts unwanted "pet" birds. They take them and keep them until a proper home is found. Sadly, they can take no more, as they are overpopulated and have minus zero room. I'll keep my eyes/ears open for an alternative. One of the guys on my ascMcLaren board has birds, I'll "talk" with him later tonight!

RE: Give a Bird a Home???

I didnt know we had some bird lovers here.

I got a couple canaries, and a couple I forgot their name but they look good kinda birds.

RE: Give a Bird a Home???

Can you ship a bird? I love birds and have a few of them, but it depends on how he's gonna cost (my money is rendered else where for the current few months).

RE: Give a Bird a Home???

We have a Cockateil, Andy. I'm not a big fan of bids, but he's cute and talks and such. I won't hold him, though. Anyway, I have heard that birds take a long time to get used to new places. Is that true? We were told when we bought our bird that it would take him some time to get used to his new surroundings and he may be antisocial for a while.

RE: Give a Bird a Home???

Well Norm, he's never said that he's a guy, but he does say, "Hop in baby let's go". Seriously-- aside from having them surgically sexed, you can tell by the way they stand on the perch. The male stands with his feet close together, the female farther apart. This is because the female has a wider pelvis to allow for the passage of eggs. Similar to humans.

The problem may be solved, one of my wife's co-workers has said she'll take him. I'll know over the weekend, her husband is out of town and she wants to wait untill he gets home to ash him.

Thanks for posting the picture. Don't know why I couldn't, it worked just fine for me the other day when I posted the picture of the tire tread.

Oh yeah, I sold her Cadillac and my GMC p/u, for the first time in 19 years I'v got fewer than three vehicles. Who knows, I may even start looking for a spare Mark VIII. I must have a death wish. :)

RE: Give a Bird a Home???

Thats true, they do take a long time to adjust. Thats why I want to make sure he goes to a good home, and not just put him up for sale.

RE: Give a Bird a Home???

Thanks to all the kind people who responded here, by private message, and email offering to help with my bird situation. Your kindness is greatly appreciated. Our zoo has agreed to take him. He'll be on exhibit in the childrens zoo, who knows he may even get himself a woman now. :) Thanks again.

RE: Give a Bird a Home???

I used to have one a yellow headed Amazon. He talked so much he drove me crazy. Socrates used to get out of his cage, waddle over to the sleeping cat and scream in it's ear! Ever see a cat shoot straight up four feet? Poor cat could never get any rest, the parrot really liked harassing him.

RE: Give a Bird a Home???

Thats the way this one is Leo, we've lost track of the number of words in his vocabulary. He was into phrases. I wish I could keep him. But I need air also. He'll be happy where he's going. They'll give him a few days to adjust, then he'll be out near the public.

Lee
San Antonio Zoo? We are members and we can make it a spedcial stop on the way past the flamingos, bears, butterflies, and the VERY aroused monkeys.

RE: Give a Bird a Home???

Scott: They're supposedly going to eventually have him in one of the small avairies near the entrance to the children's petting area. Until he gets used to them one of the animal handlers is going to come get him Sunday afternoon, and have him at her home for a few weeks, then he'll go to the zoo's main avairy, but in a separate cage, then they'll gradually intergrate him into the group. They're really going to a lot of trouble to help him get over the trauma of the move.

RE: Give a Bird a Home???

John,

Wish I had known. I would have shipped him to you. This will work out best though, because we'll still get to see him from time to time.
