Got a 1998 Crown Vic

After some searching, I decided to go with 1998 Crown Vic with about 65k miles. The car does not have a single door ding on it. Interior shape is top notch. Seats look pretty much new. But like most used cars, it does have some quirks to it. The engine compartment is dirty, previous owner was an old lady who probably never even opened the hood. Tires will need to get changed pretty soon. Besides that I’m hoping that this car will last me quite some time, I'm fed up with engine and transmission/suspension and what else not repairs.

As you can tell this car has some rather interesting options like the digital dash, and the RDS radio as well as a full size spare.

RE: Got a 1998 Crown Vic

Very nice, we buy those and export them all the time. There is a BIG market for those cars in the middle east. They drive nothing but RWD V8's, its ford heaven over there. 1 out of every 10 cars is a crownvic. Glad you found a fully loaded one. All you need to do is switch the tires, and get rid of the white walls, they looks sweet without them. NICE RIDE........ ENJOY :)

RE: Got a 1998 Crown Vic

I rather like those thin white walls. Makes it look like its not an unmarked police cruiser.

RE: Got a 1998 Crown Vic

Nice, tint the windows and add a big attena. then no one will pass you

RE: Got a 1998 Crown Vic

Unmarked units dont have alloy wheels :)

I wouldn't say that for sure. I'm pretty sure I've seen one around here w/ alloy wheels and I'm sure it was a cruiser cuz it had the "police interceptor" badge and I could see the lights in the windows.

Max... I'm proud of you buddy. That is exactly what I would have purchased. It has nearly identical rims as my merc did, and the exterior color is close as well. In fact, the whole car looks identical, except the digital dash, and I had dark blue leather interior. Man thats a sweet ride you got there. yes, full size spare should be standard on the LS model. I just went looking for my pics of my wanna be Marauder, but I could only find one.

This isnt a real good pic. Since then, I got rid of the white-walls, and went with a 235/60-15 Black wall tire... made a huge difference in the car's appearence. That and true dual exhaust with the flowmasters and hi-flow cats, and a Pioneer CD changer, and it was a road trip king!!!

I think you'll love the car. I would get a chip in it to firm up the shifts though. They are very lazy shifts.

Enjoy buddy Ya done good!!!

RE: Got a 1998 Crown Vic

Thanks for the kind words everyone :)!
So far I love the car. Increadibly smooth on the freeway. Too bad for the limiter at 103 ;-). Its really quiet too. On a side note my mark was in an accident, ironic thing is it happened the day I looked at this car.

RE: Got a 1998 Crown Vic

Maybe you should name her Christine. ;-)

Congrats and enjoy it!

RE: Got a 1998 Crown Vic

I REALLY like the digital dash, big tyme!! :) Reminds me of my Town Car. I like it! Thumbs up on the same tyres I have too, skinny WWs.

There are a lot of posers out there, I mean a whole lot. there is no way a police cruiser is equipped with alloy wheels, NO way. UNLESS the cop himself changed them, which sounds like a very long shot. btw, many put the interceptor badge (13bucs) and fake lights on the inside, perfectly legal in many areas, and works well during road rage moments.

They always know. When I was looking for a replacement for my Merc, guess what happened? The Merc's intake manifold split. The car had never let me down in 120k+ miles of driving it, drag racing it, long road trips, etc. Just basic maintanance. Suddenly I am on the lookout for a new vehicle, and the Merc has to break. I hate it when they take money from you at the last minute. Oh well... that helped its trade in value a bit(new style intake=less work the dealer has to do before resale).

Congrats again Max. "CHIP IT!"

RE: Got a 1998 Crown Vic

don’t forget to check out these sites for any questions you many have:

www.crownvic.net
www.crownvic.us

great source for any questions you many have. I owned a 96 LS HPP for about a year prior to the mark, it was a great car, in perfect condition. The digi dash is a lot of fun too.

Good choice. You will have many trouble free miles. The only possible problem I could see coming up would be the digital gauges. I dont know if they are making them better than they used to. Now get ready to have a lot of people slamming on their brakes in front of you. People cant see your rims in the rear veiw mirror. As for the PI with aluminum rims, some come with them. I saw some at the my las agency and some at my new one as well. Its just not an option that a city would normally put on a car, so you dont see many of them. I usually saw them on admin cars.

Edit: Make sure your rear bumper is properly bolted. Along the bottom edge of your bumper you will see a series of bolts that attach the bottom part of your bumper to a brace. If if it is not properly bolted the back bumper will flap at high speeds and cause the bumper to tear. Also make sure that the exhaust tips stay bent down. The bumpers are so low that the hot gasses will melt and discolor the plastic.

Police Motto: Be Polite. Be Courteous. Have a plan to hug everyone you meet.

Don’t worry, those outlive the car.

Civilian vics without the HPP (Handling and Performance Package) only have one, so one less tip to worry about.
