ANYBODY GOT ANY IDEAS ON THIS WEIRD HAPPENING?????
Selling dealer took my new '98 base 15k mi car to get the blend door and a couple of theings repaired. When it was at the Lincoln dealer I had the hood paintd. (small ding and a couple of scratches where something dropped on it) Body shop guy calls and says the selling dealer must have put something on your car. The chrome on the grill is coming off during detail. I of course try to not go ballistic. 15K miles and hardley ever seen the sun, lol. What is up with this?
I inspectecd the car extremely well before I made the deal. I pick the car up Thursday and told the body shop to replace the grill and save me the old one. I'm determined to get reimbursed at some point but only time will tell.
Any comments?
thanks,
Barry

Will keep you posted- I pick the car up Thursday

My brand new grille i bought from the dealer about a year ago is already starting to peel. I will have to sand it and have it painted black with the upper hood chrome also. It's just inferior surface preparation i suspect that led to the premature delaminating of the chrome off the plastic.
I have plastic chromeplated pieces still off my 1979 Trans Am that are near mint condition. Also a grille off my old 1982 Ford Fairmount Futura that is still shiny with no peeling or cracking. I blame it on FORD's inferior quality controll on whoever was contracted in making the grilles for the Mark 8. It's probably going to be another dead horse beating like our headlights issue in which Ford will never pay. But good luck.

RE: GRILL

Our grill is peeling as well, 97 with 103K miles. Started peeling about a year ago.

RE: GRILL

My 98 has some black scratch marks shining through...looks awful on my car because I have very nice paint still with only 38K on it now.
