Are there any other headers that you can put on the Mark VIII i was just wondering because the Kooks headers are slightly out of my price range.

thank you,

RE: headers?

Nope, that's it.

You can buy cobra headers and modify them or have them modified, but to DIY you need to know how to weld and it's still going to cost you as much as the kooks headers. To have someone modify a set would end up costing more than the kooks as well.

dan at www.speedfreak.cc was making some longtubes also but i don't think he's making them anymore.

RE: headers?

What kind of modifications are you talking about i know how to weld, and i work in a muffler shop so maybe it will be less for me to buy the cobra headers. Just wondering what it is going to take thanks.

RE: headers?

The Mark's steering rag joint directly interfers with the stock location of the Cobra's header design. At least one, if not more, primary must be rerouted around. Using a billet steering joint greatly improves clearance, but modifications are still needed.

RE: headers?

You have to buy headers, buy mandrel bends, put the car on the lift, drop the k-member, and start fitting up the headers. Basically have to cut at least one of the primaries out and build it yourself. Then you think you have it right, put it back together, it hits, and you have to do it all over again.

Trust me, just buy the kooks.

RE: headers?

definately buy the kooks. i have dans lts and had clearance issues on the floor of the car. also had to get a billet u-joint to replace the rag joint.

Yea i forgot about that. I had to dent my drivers floorboard in quite a bit for clearance. But that's gonna have to happen with long tubes because there just isn't enough room for the pipe next to the tranny. You could hang it lower but then there's ground clearance issues.

RE: headers?

I have Dan's long tubes on my Mark and have no clearance issues. I had the Flaming River u-joint installed but it looks like the stock rag joint would have worked. I guess I'm just lucky. I know Dan spent a lot of time fitting them to one of his Marks and some people, like me, haven't had problems. If it was easy anybody could do it.

ya the drivers side is where my clearance issue is. ive pounded the floor in as much as i can and even have a couple of small holes in there right now. when the salts of the roads next spring im just going to section the floor, reform and weld it i can get the exhaust done. the header collector is not angled correctly. when the four primaries come together they then immediately angle towards the floor. anyways these headers were and definately are an experience for me. if i were aware of these issues i wouldve done the kooks but o well. maybe next time
