Hello from the DARK SIDE

Well, the conversion has been complete for about a month or two now, and I love the ride just not the look. First let me say Eddie @ American Air was very helpful and patient with me, "IF" I had to do it over again, I would purchase the 1.5" drop for the front, but the original height for the back, my front just isn't low enough, would have liked for it to be another 1-1.5' lower in the front for the springs I put on the back...
Sometime in the future I will probably try to heat the front springs to lower it another inch at least, but not anytime soon, I really have enjoyed driving it.

its far from a shame, its way too much money to replace the air ride with new stuff. if they offered the air ride for the same price as a coil kit, everyone would still be on air. i myself reside on the dark side too, the lowered half though! my 97 is sprung on progressive vogland 2 inch lowered coils, my 98 lsc is on air still with 213k on it. dont heat the springs ever that trashes a coil spring, the only right way is take the coil off the strut and cut it with a cut off wheel. a half a coil cut will drop it about a 1/2 inch and probably be level, a full coil will put it around an inch to 1.5 lower. this is my 97 with a 2inch drop.

Thanks for the advice, yeah it's easy to do so I will look into who can cut them... Right now I'm installing nitrous and dual exhaust, so it might be a month or two before I feel like doing it...

Jamie, you mention you have Voglands. Did you swap the spings in a strutmaster coilover or something liek that?I am not too knowledgeable on the spring conversions.

yes it is a strutmasters pair of front catridges with vogtland springs and obviously just vogtland springs in the rear with KYB shocks.
here is the part number for the springs

FORD THUNDER BIRD "Ford Thunder Bird, SC, V8 " 1989-1998 1.6 drop or 40mm drop part # 953058 $259.99

or the whole kit front and rear
MERCURY COUGAR "Mercury Cougar XR-7, SC, V8 " 1989-1998 1.6 drop or 40mm drop Non-Adjustable part # 963058 $499.99

I picked up a complete set of thunderbird super coupe springs and struts from pick a part for 65.00. built a pair of plates to keep the rear spring centered. I ran w/original parts(springs and shocks/struts) for a few months (had 4 wheel alignment done) while saving up for better pieces! kept. my car off its knees and on the road when I had to rely on it for daily driving!!!
