Help with a possible short

I keep blowing my fuse relay #19 in the power distribution box. It locks my mirrors and power seats. Anyone have any similar experince with this , or know of where there might be a short? I can keep replacing the fuse, but that gets annoying.

I also have a problem that i know another member had with the side mirrors. After putting the car in drive the driver side will just continue to rise. I have to readjust everytime i get into the car. Very annoying as well. Might be tied to the short?

Any suggestions are welcome.

RE: Help with a possible short

The first thing I'd check is where the wiring harness comes out of the body and into the drivers door. Constant opening and closing has been know to wear through some of the wire insulation, and could be causing a short in those circuits, since the mirror has circuitry in the door. Unfortunately, it's not usually obvious where the actual short is because it can be inside the protective cover around the harness.

RE: Help with a possible short

My son's '93 Ranger had the same problem. Fortunately, Ford put a circuit breaker on that circuit instead of a fuse....boy would that thing get hot! It turned out to be a short in the air pump motor wire on the driver's seat. The wire had chaffed on the metal seat frame over the years. A little electrical tape and a wire tie fixed it.

Set your driver's seat where you want it and then unplug it.
If the problem goes away, remove the seat and you'll find the short.
