HOTLNC Failed COx

OK, HOTLNC failed its second emissions test. Two weeks week when it failed the first time, the test guy suggested and I tried XrP. It's a fuel additive that reduces carbon. But the COx readings on the retest are almost dead on same.

The motor has 250K miles in it.

I did a search and one posting mentioned SeaFoam as useful in cleaning out converters. Has anybody had any luck with a chemical fix?

If I'm gonna invert over $3.1K in HOTLNC, I'm going for a motor -- not cats.

How about junk yards? Excuse me: Auto Recyclers?

Seafoam works well from my experience.

Is your MAF bad/dirty? That was my problem. New MAF and now its like a new car!

250k a is a lot... i think it would be cheaper to buy another mark that to put a new engine in that one...

That said ... try seafoam and make sure the 02 sensors are good to go.

Well, I bombed out at the junk yards. It seems selling used cats is not legal in Texas. Is that common for other states?

I'm gonna SeaFoam the tank and clean the MAS and retry tomorrow.

If the numbers remain the same, it may be time to put old HOTLNC down.

:(

Try Seafoam in the intake, works MUCH better. Heck, you may need two cans!

On the 94 you can let the vacuum suck in the Seafoam at the PCV valve. But if you have some spare hose to attach, it makes things easier. Make sure the engine is HOT before you do this.

Suck it up slowly. I keep my hand on the throttle cable to keep it from dying. I actually like to open it up past 3k to get the IMRCs coated too. At the near end of the can suck up enough to "flood" it and stall out.

Let sit for 20 minutes.

Startup and freak out neighbors with tons of smoke are you rev it. Take it out on teh highway if ya can. You will be trailing lots of smoke.

Repeat if needed.

That should clear out a TON of carbon. I had a lot of carbon die to my bad MAF. My exhaust tips got all blackened up. After a couple treatments and a new MAF the tips are staying clean.

The directions on the can say 1/3 of seafom in crankcase. 1/3 of seafoam in gas tank and 1/3 seafoam to be sucked up thru the vac line that attaches to the brake booster.

There are tons of vids on Youtube showing this.

You probably already know, but only leave the SeaFoam in the crankcase for a few minutes.

No, the SeaFoam does not go into the tailpipe. ;)
I guess enema is the wrong medical term. I need to give HOTLNC an automotive version of a super, high density laxative. That stuff cleaned out my pipes really good the night before my colonoscopy !

Yes you can't sell used cats... contact jamie ;)

You could always add some aftermarket 3 way cats to your car.

And... believe it or not.

Changing the danged oil just before you have your cars emissions checked does help cars that "borderline" fail.

Hotlnc Passed!!!!

Hotlnc Passed!!!!

That high strength super laxative worked. It passed -- by the skin of its converter, but it is good for another year.

Last night I cleaned the MAS (didn't need it) and injected 1/2 can of SeaFoam through the PCV vacuum line. I dumped the rest of the can in the tank. I let it set for 30 minutes then drove it 20 miles.

Today after a 75 mile drive it was retested and it passed.

The numbers before SeaFoam: 1353 ppm. Limit: 751 ppm

The numbers After SeaFoam: 697 ppm. Limit: 751 ppm

The tester guy suggested I install universal cats before next years test.

Thanks for the suggestion, guys.

It passed! It passed! It passed! It passed! It passed!
