I got a duzy for yall...

I've been curious at the amount of mid-range in my mark.

I run the Polyglass 165 V2's (focal) in the doors. I have a Kenwood amp that is hooked up in the trunk for those speakers. I went to get the kenwood amp installed and wired and the audio shop decided to splice the wires from the 600w amp to the ALREADY EXISTING FORD FACTORY WIRES THAT GO TO THE HEADUNIT instead of running new wires to the crossovers. They had run new wires from the amp to to top rear of the trunk so I never saw the splice.

Today I was looking at the crossover thinking there could be something wrong and I pulled the crossover out a bit and a friend noticed that at the end of the wire attached to the INPUT of the crossover was SPLICED TO THE FORD FACTORY WIRES. These were a different color than those in the trunk also.

If I ran the same HU I could see how they would do this and expect it to work but THIS IS A BRAND NEW HEADUNIT. I couldn't believe it.

I went to the audio shop perplexed how they thought this would work (and why they didn't just tell me how it was wired). I didn't know if the running of the wires from the speakers to the amp was included in the the amp and power line install but obviously it isn't. The manager when I showed him the wires YELLED IN MY FACE telling me not to "come there and make him angry" and that "he installs 6000$ systems every day and doesn't care about a 20$ here and there" (whatever that's soppose to mean). He kept on going bring it in in the morning and we'll look at it yada yada after he had insulted me and brashly talked to me like an imbicil. I was being totally complient with what we had done with the car (6 months ago)... agreeing with what we had done and what we agreed would be included in the installment. We didn't get to the point of if the speakers in the doors would be included in the install because he blew up and I threw up my hands and said bye.

I just replaced the tweets because they both blew. Since I installed them I am beginning to hear a humming in the speakers which I'm suspicious of.

Anyway, so yea they told me I needed a new amp for the components b/c the amp I had (another aftermarked amp) wasn't working and then upon installed said amp never connected it to the components so it's been sitting in the trunk not doing a damn thing but heating up and cooling down. The components have been running completely off the HU internal amp.

I'm miffed. I don't know if this was a lack of communication or lazyness on their part. :(

BTW I rewired the component set myself today.

I'm making a new install board for both the amps to set on in the back of the trunk.

I'm also pulling down that black underhanging thing in the trunk and throwing it IN THE GARBAGE!!!

RE: I got a duzy for yall...

Damn, that sucks. I guess it just goes to show, if you want anything done right, you'd better do it yourself.

RE: I got a duzy for yall...

I got back in the trunk today to find the X cross broken on one part. :( Very upset about that. They drilled in a bunch of screws into the X bracing to mount an amp there. The amp fell down and they remounted it. I'm quessing when they mounted it the first time it broke the x braceing. :(

I also went through all the wires myself and found that they did a shitty job. I even found that they used a ground (colored) wire for a power wire. That pissed me off a bit. Could have led to a huge problem.

1) post the name of this "amazing" shop so that the other members in your area know where NOT to go (better yet, make a post in the Vendor Review forum, or whatever it is called.)
That's pretty crappy how they treated you. He may install $6000 systems every day, but you sure won't ever have them install a $6000 system. I could go on and on about this, but I'll just shut up :)

2) what Dave said. I installed my whole system. Did I do a perfect job? Hardly, haha. But everything is installed secure, and I know how all the wires were run, etc. So if something is wrong, I don't have to figure out how it was done, I can just go try to fix it.

3) If the components were running off of the head unit, they were likely WAY under-powered. Maybe that's why the tweeters blew? I know you can ruin woofers by under-powering them and playing them loud, I imagine it's the same with the tweets? Food for thought...

The Shop is called Houston Car Audio in SW Houston. Also don't go to A1 Audio in SW Houston. That's where I made my first mistake w/ this system and had to dump100$ on rewiring. :(

Antonio, what color was the "ground colored" wire?? A lot of new amp kits use silver, and other colors besides red for a positive polarity connection. They do this mostly just for looks, or to match to a vehicles color scheme.

...As far as the use of the factory wiring, what they might have done is, used the factory wire just to go between the aftermarket amp, and the wiring harness behind the radio, then jump the wires at the headunit harness. This is a commonly used shortcut for installers who either don't want to waste time or who believe that running new wiring won't make much of a difference.

When I got into audio install and I first witnessed this technique, I thought it was super hack and refrained from practicing it whenever possible. If anyone is considering an amp install for speakers inside the car, just make sure that you discuss with the installer(s)how you want new wiring to be run from the amp to the new speakers.

The way the installer responded to you was still VERY unprofessional, no matter how experienced he or she is, as he obviously only cares about big money jobs, if that. I'm sorry to hear about your bad experiences, hopefully you'll find a competant shop that treats you properly.
