I have no luck

OK I have no luck Jerry will tell you this, last year at this time I ran my Mark at Gainesville it ran 11.7 at 118 MPH they told me to leave it did not have a roll cage, so I had one installed and then pulled the motor added a T Trim, last week we did 3" mandrill bend duels, the car sounds awesome, tonight I took the car along with Gregg Hennings Marauder, to Gainesville the last night for the season.

So I pull up to the staging lanes do a horridness burn out, stroll on up to the lights try to keep from spilling my coke NOT, and wait for the light, I am off, the car is a rocket every one in the stands is on there feet, the car spun out of the box my 60' was 2.005 so I was dissapointed with 11.803 at 121.75 MPH the car hit the rev limit on the 1/2 up shift and again on the 2/3 this probably cost me three tenths or more, so I say to my self no problem I will manually shift the car next pass WRONG ANSWER I am asked to leave the car does not have a six point seat belt, I am PISSED.

So I go to Gregg's car, he has a Vortech kit for the Marauder with 4:10's no PI it ran 12.79 at 107.65 Now this is on 18 "wheels with huge Nittos, and fellers this is on 8 PSI with a 12.0 AF This car has only 580 miles on the clock This is SCT tuning at its best, so again I am totally pleased with my power and performance set up, if I installed a 3.48 Pulley on this Marauder the car would catch another Marauder I did that ran 12.36 but it was on 17" wheels, so I hope every one has a good weekend, the Cobra Marauder project car is coming along Nicely this car will go will be a Monster.

RE: I have no luck

Ouch, that hurts. Still a good run, but it must be disappointing to do all that work and pay the 20 bucks to get in and only get 1 run.

Now you have to get a six point and go back so we can all see how it REALLY runs!

RE: I have no luck

First, you're too fast and need to install a roll cage? Now you were slower and they make you get a six point harness? I don't think they like fast Lincolns, Dennis.:)

to Gainesville the last night for the season.

I thought you Guys had Warm weather all year? That sucks. Even our track stays open all year provided there is no Snow (which we are getting pelted with right now)

RE: I have no luck

Well the car ran very good I know it will go low 11's or high 10's what happens is they close it up to re'do the track for the Gator Nationals in March so They will be open in Mid January I will be ready then.

Oh that's not so bad then.

RE: I have no luck

No offense Dennis, but I wouldn't call that one bad luck.I'd call it bad planning. You should have looked into a rule book before you installed the cage and known about the belts.
As a matter of fact your cage installer should have told you about it and built a bar into the hoop to hold the belts.Cage fabricators need to stay current with the rules cause their cages have to comply with an ever changing rule book.
Just so you know, if your car goes into the 10s now it has to have a full 10 point cage not just the 6 or 8 point it has now.Which means you have to have the bars that come forward into the dash and across the header panel by the rear view mirror.
Do your self a favor and get an 04 rule book. They just came out. There is a few more things they can probably kick you out over.Driveshaft loop/ wheel studs etc. etc.

Good luck, Chris

RE: I have no luck

Well Dam Chris no offence taken, The car is fully up to NHRA rules now, I installed the seat harness today How many fully loaded Mark 8's have been in the 11's at over a 120 MPH not many. I don't care to tub the car or butcher it its still fully loaded all the bells and whistles work, the CD player is still in the trunk. I wont do a 10 point I dont care to go further with the car after this, as a matter of fact I have someone wanting to buy the car, I dont care about the rule book I was out to have fun and I did, the car was the talk of the crowd, and the topic no luck is meant as a pun Chris, but thanks for your input.

RE: I have no luck

No problem. It kinda sucks they changed the rules. As of last year you could go 9.999 before you had to put a 10 point in.There are a lot of street cars in the 10s nowadays and they are not going to be happy when they find out they have to put a 10 point in.
Get it leagal and giver hell.

RE: I have no luck

What I never understood was, howcome the goons in "tech" dont notice the violations BEFORE they let you run? I mean, they saw the roll cage, and they should know that your car can run(or at least ask you what it runs)(see under hood). They should realize that not only did you NOT have the correct belts, but they should also have checked to see if your belts were CURRENT(a date stamped safety item). No.. then they would have to give you your money back, and drag strips HATE to give refunds!

Killer times though! My God, I would crap if I saw a Mark VIII in person click off a low 2.0 second 60ft time. That is one bad mutha you have there Dennis. One good, sticky, non-rev-limiter banging pass, and you should see numbers you havent hit yet.

The main drawback to "adding" a roll cage to a 11 second car is, you usually lose in benefit more than you gain in benefit. i.e. roll cage stiffens the chassis to aid in weight transfer, but adds weight, which slows the car down. You cant win for losing!

We back halfed my 65 Mustang fastback one year, added a 4 link, and a bigger tire. Cool.. more meat, better traction and weight transfer... the car should fly! Wrong.. it slowed down 2/10ths due to the added weight!

Good luck next season!

RE: I have no luck

Its all about saving his ass god forbid something bad would happen. I dont ever complain about a safety requirement. Its my ass on the line.

RE: I have no luck

I agree Chris about safety, I dont plan on racing this car all the time, last year they told me I needed the role cage so I had one installed, I never looked at the rule book because I did not think any thing else was needed, the car has the driveshaft loop so again I am not out to totaly butcher this car the AC and cruise still works I love the CD player and I drive the car to and from work while at the same time just blow peoples minds when I go WOT, imagine what the car did if I stripped but then to me its not the Lincoln I love, so every one have a good weekend.

RE: I have no luck

Go travelling Dennis. Come on up to MI, you can run 10's without a cage all day long if you want, at Ubly. Just take it easy on the first pass or two then let it rip.

Someone said they'd be thrilled to see a low 2 second 60' out of a Mark. Get to the dragstrip! My best 60' is like 2.1, with stock gears, stock converter, and crappy tires. I'm hoping to get at least as low as 1.8 in the 60' in the spring, if not lower. The headers, 3200 stall, 4.10's, and a borrowed pair of slicks should accomplish that. I'm sure Dennis would have knocked a few more tenths off his 60' if he got a few more runs. He's "tire-limited" :). Even with those badass widened rims.

RE: I have no luck

Well I believe I can get a lower 60' the tires were spinning I had 15 pounds in the M/T so I would have played with the tire preasure and manualy shifted the car had I been able to run, so lets wait till next month then will get'em

RE: I have no luck

Since I seem to have a surplus of salive lately, can you re-post the pics of your roll-cage??? I thought it was a killer job, and definately one of the cleanest installations I have seen and to see its a street car is awesome. Whatdya say Dennis? Pics for the masses?

RE: I have no luck

Just brake at the 1000" line. You can compare numbers up to that point, and then you wont have the car in the 10's by the 1/4. People do it here all the time. Mosdt people are just interested in the 1/8. You can see all improvements up to that point anyway. All you miss is the 1/4 mile time. That kinda sucks, but so does putting in a cage.

I cut two back to back 2.12 60's on saturday1-2.13 and 1-2.15 also

RE: I have no luck

I'm pretty consistantly getting 2.0 60' times with a best of 2.031.
