With all the complaints and legislation regarding the use of cell phones and the potential distractions they are to drivers, speaking of distractions I find these video devices in other cars a terrible distraction, the darker the road the worse the distraction.
Driving down the highways at night trying to remain focused on the other traffic with some video monitor in a headrest or ceiling mounted in a vehicle in front of me with the what visually seems is the randomly changing light source patterns IMO are as much or more a hazard to traffic then any cell phone conversation. The cell phone arguably might affect the concentration of 1 driver in 1 car but the video monitor potentially can be a distraction to anyone following a so equipped vehicle.
I submit our distraction hating law makers should mandate that all video monitors be mounted below the window beltline so as to reduce the distraction the light source they are can be to the drivers of other vehicles on the roads.
