Im in the market for tires

Pauls dropped 8

i found out today that im showing some steel on my front tires. needless to say i will be replacing them asap. im looking for a tire in 235/40/18, preferably W or Z rated that works well in both wet and dry. i put about 25-27k miles on the nittos so im thinking of maybe something that'll last a little longer since im not too sure thats a good amount of time for tires to die on me. i think about $170 max per tire is what ill be willing to spend. gimme some suggestions guys.

thanks.

edit: is there much of a difference between a W and a Z rating?

RE: Im in the market for tires

so far the best ive found (based on ratings & reviews) are the Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3. theyre a little more than i want to pay but the reviews make it seem worth the extra $15. anyone have any experience with these?

RE: Im in the market for tires

Paul,
I have never heard anything bad about the GoodYear F-1's...However I doubt that they will last as long as the ones you are ready to replace. If you really want the tires to last you may wanna consider going with a High tread wear rating in a V or H rated tire. The f-1's are rated at 280 I believe which would be pretty bad if ya wanted them to last...

Cheers

Brad

RE: Im in the market for tires

What about the yokohama es100's that there is another thread about. They are most likely a good amount cheaper then the f-1's. The tread wear rating is the same I believe, 280. Definitely won't last forever!

RE: Im in the market for tires

How are the falken tires? I've seen them on e-bay and some online stores for pretty good prices. I haven't really heard any reviews on them. They seem to be a nice looking inexpensive tire anyway. Anyone have them?

RE: Im in the market for tires

I have ran them in the past...I have no complaints...They did last, and they were Z-rated tires come to think of it...

They are damn cheep....

RE: Im in the market for tires

sounds like I may be looking into those in the future........thanks for the heads up

RE: Im in the market for tires

ive never heard of falken being all that good in wet or dry. i remember looking into a set back when i was looking for wheels and something steered me away from them.

RE: Im in the market for tires

man, buying retail is for suckers. the price on tirerack.com for the goodyears i was considering was $186. i went around to about 7 tire shops in my area and was quoted anywhere from $230 to $330 per tire, NOT INCLUDING MOUNTING/BALANCING! i said to hell with it all and went back to where i bought my wheels/tires from and bought 2 more nitto 555s for $300 including m/b. i really wanted to try the goodyears but it just wouldnt have made much sense pricewise.

RE: Im in the market for tires

Paul, many of the tire stores around here have matching prices - so if you can show them that you could get the tires cheaper (but they do add shipping prices to the prices from tirerack), they'll match the price. If you haven't finished the tire deal, I'd suggest you try getting them to do the price matching.

RE: Im in the market for tires

believe me, i did the price match thing. ive gotten hooked on this price match thing since i was piecing my stereo together and now try to negotiate price on damn near everything i buy.

RE: Im in the market for tires

Paul that's the only way to do it! On my past set of 245/50/16's got the price from 220 a tire to $150. (The goodyear eagle gs-c's are expensive as hell!!) All I did was BS the guy about the price I could go elsewhere and buy them. =) Sometimes it works sometimes it dosen't.

RE: Im in the market for tires

i hear ya. yesterday i was at all of these places doing my best to haggle them down to a little below what tirerack has them for but they wouldnt budge. most of the places were saying that was actually below cost for them. its alot easier to do with audio equipment since their markup is so rediculously high. these tire shops kept telling me they didnt make money of the tires but rather the mounting and all that. i think theyre full of it.

RE: Im in the market for tires

They are full of BS, I now can get quite a few brands of tires a good amount below tire rack's price. For example a $100 (not including shipping) tire on the rack I can get for 80 + 6 shipping. My cousin has a hook up with a wholesale tire distributor. And he doesn't buy huge quantities of tires like the stores do so you know they must get it even cheaper then I can. So they are full of BS. Definitely look around online and you will get a good price. I can only get them shipped to my cousins address that is registered with them otherwise I'd have some drop shipped COD to you or something.

RE: Im in the market for tires

i actually have a hookup for tires myself but its a kid i run into sporadically. if i were smart, id have gotten the guys number long ago.
