Key Cylinder stopped working

I got to work the other day and tried to turn off the car and the key did not work in the steering coleum. There is no resistance at all. Thinking the tumbler was broken went and got another one from ford and still the same problem. The Statrer works but to turn off the car I have to pull the ignition kill on my alarm then pull the negitive lead on the battery to shut off power. I pulled the shroud off the steering coleum and looked to see a slide bar in the coleum that works off the key but I can't see anything else. Does anyone know what is going on?

Mine never got to that point,but it did get to where the key and the ears no lomger stayed in line with other.

I replaced the lock& cylinder with a set from Autozone, $12.99, no mpore problem.
