Keyless Entry Remote - Programming

I've just replaced my keyless entry remote for my 98LSC. Don't you hate it when you lose your remote! :-(

Anyway, the car only came with one, (Memory Recall 2) and I lost it on the weekend. I just picked up a new one from the dealer. I read through the Drivers Handbook and I see no reference on how to program it. I am assuming that it needs to somehow pick up the codes for the car. Or, am I over complicating things?

Functionality on the remote: Lock doors, Unlock doors, Open the Trunk, Sound the Panic alarm. Recall On/Off switch on the back.

Advice???

RE: Keyless Entry Remote - Programming

Thanks John for responding. I tried your method and it didn't work for some reason. Then I searched the archives on the old board and found the reference in the Automobilia section with detailed instructions. Doh!

In any case, somethings not right. According to the instructions:
1) Enter the factory keyless entry code on the drivers door. OK. Locks come up.

2) "Press the 1/2 button within 5 seconds to activate the programming mode. Holding the 1/2 button for more than 2 seconds will erase all stored customer codes. The door locks will then lock, then unlock, confirming the codes are erased. You may have to repeat this step twice".

This is where it breaks down. When holding down the 1/2 button as directed, the doors do not lock then unlock. It's not confirming that the codes are erased.

Are you sure you used the original factory code and not the one you may have programmed in? This only works if you use the original code.

RE: Keyless Entry Remote - Programming

Yep. I used the original factory code. I used the code off of the sticker on the trunk lid...

I think I'll try to see if it will accept a new keypad code. I found that procedure ok. That should help with my trouble shooting efforts.

Seems to me people should not complain unless they want to volunteer as a web master and update all the links on hundreds of pages.

Woah Steve, where did that come from? Let's back up a bit and start again, I was simply asking since it appears all the links are indeed updated, it seems the home page needs to have the link added to access these pages. And by the way, I am working on the FAQs, should be done by the end of the week.

I've also noticed this - that's why I didn't mention it in my original reply. But I've successfully used the procedure a number of times, (testing remotes), and even without the "confirmation", it's always been successful for me.

RE: Keyless Entry Remote - Programming

FYI: I finally got it working this morning. I decided to do a couple of things.

First, I decided to see if the DDM would let me set a separate personal code. I included a sixth digit to line it up with driver setting 2. Yep, that worked ok.

Next, I went through all the driver settings to see if anything there was ok. Then I set the driver recall settings to 2, to match my remote transmitter. I confirmed that driver 2 settings were recalled.

Then I entered the 5 digit factory code (locks open), paused for a second or two and hit the 1/2 switch and by selected one of the switches on the new remote. The door locks cycled indicating success. :p Why this didn't work yesterday BTSOOM.

Thanks for your help guys. :D
