Looking for a used four door

Hi there gang,

Well, the Mark's about to turn 140k. It needs a real window seal and a repaint, too, so it's been officially relegated to commuter and household use. (Did you know that you can stack six 16' 2 by 6's on top of the Mark? Pretty handy.)

At any rate, I'm looking for a powerful, reliable, rear wheel drive, 4-door German or American luxury vehicle that will be our "nice" travelling car. I'd like to spend 15k or less for a car with as few miles on it as possible.

I've already done the BMW 740 thing. I'd get another only if I can't find something better.

Contenders include:
Mid 90's 540i 6-speed
Mid 90s MB S500/S600 sedan
Pre-1998 Towncar
200x Crown Vic/Grand Marquis

Any thoughts on the above or any other suggestions?

Town Car os an expensive G.M.[/div]

In my neck of the woods, not much premium is on a used TownCar vs a used Grand Marquis. Comparably equipped, same year and mileage, maybe $2K difference on actual dealer lot prices?

Besides, it's not a Lincoln. ;)

A8 - any year.

somewhat reliable but EXTREMELY difficult to work on and as such, very expensive to repair

Bill, you're making me feel guilty. I've only hauled 2x6s and cedar boards on top of the mark. (And I've got the brown scuffs to prove it!)

Thanks for all of the advice - I think I'm going to check out a few Towncars this weekend. I'm curious if I'll feel the HP difference (as compared to the Mark). But I guess there's always gears and a supercharger that can be added... ::grrr::

No problem, Bill. I was just giving you guff. :)

BTW - The paint is still surprisingly shiny in most places. I'm thinking of taking an autobody/painting class at a community college so I can learn how to paint - and repaint the Mark on the cheap. ;)
