Lost a Friend to Street Racing

I've been meaning to post this up here. I lost a friend this past month to street racing. I've never had someone this young that I have know die, and believe me, the wake and funeral were tops on the most emotional experiences of my life scale. I'm not trying to make judgements about street racing. I just wanted some of the younger guys to know there are consequences.

All I know is I've lost a friend- someone who I saw almost every other day. There is a young wife without her husband..and two young children without their father...

RE: Lost a Friend to Street Racing

Sorry about your loss. I have long said, save it for the track. In Ontario, they are considering a new law which the offenders will loose their license, and have their cars seized and sold. I think it's a great idea. If it saves even one life, then to me, it's a success...~R

What a sad story but all too common. Street racing deaths happen here at least once a year and are almost always young people with a lot of life to look forward to.

RE: Lost a Friend to Street Racing

It's a sad reality. A friend of mine lost two of his friends when the BMW they were in was speeding around a corner, lost control and smashed into a tree (heavily forested area). The car could not be indentifed at first. One of my ex co-workers bought a 1994 TT Supra and crashed it twice! The second time he crashed into an elementary school fence. http://www.regalgs.org/forum/smiles/ahole2.gif He went to jail, lost his license for 5 years and his rates went through the roof. Driving will never be a right. In Vancouver, if you're caught street racing, your car will be impounded and you will lose your license on the spot. Zero tolerance policy. Around here, most of the people that crash are inexperienced youths driving hopped up cars payed for by the parents. Many of the victims are innocent people just trying to go somewhere. I know. My uncle was a victim.

I'm sorry for your loss. It's never easy to deal with the loss of a close friend but time heals all wounds I've heard.

Same thing happened in Daytona last week....during the race one guy got clipped, flew across the eastbound lanes and flipped, ejecting him...
The other car stopped and the guys in that car jumped out, pulled the victim out from under his wrecked car, jumped back in their car and split...never got caught and the victim was DOA at the hospital...He was 44...

Hardly worth all that it seems to me.

Part of the problem is that there aren't enough drag strips available. Urban sprawl and high insurance rates have eliminated several around here. One of our local strips has a "Runday Sunday" once a month. For a nominal fee you can race your ass off.
