Lost RPM reading

I lost the RPM reading on the 1996 Mark I am selling. It doesn't move at all. The rest of the dash works. Doesn't anybody know what this is?

Thanks!
Ken (14.6 @ 97 MPH on the 'other' board)

ps - for those of you that read both boards, you will see that exact same post over there! are we allowed to post links between both boards, or is that not allowed?

RE: Lost RPM reading

This is a common problem! It happened to me when I had a 96 and I replaced the tach, it was cheap enough, but then I read once that there was a simpler fix. I think Nightsky once posted it.

Regarding the cross posting, you'll have no problem here with the link but if you post a link to here on the other board the profanity filters will block it out and you'll get a warning or suspension for posting it. Paranoia still reigns supreme over there.

I don't know if your problem is the same but mine quit a couple weeks ago after a couple really hot days. I took the instrument cluster out and found the sealer under the tach face had softened and let it slide down enough to ride the shaft to the needle and bind it. I just carefully lifted the face up with a knife and shifted it back and pressed it back down and it's worked every time since. Hope yours is that easy.

RE: Lost RPM reading

Some people have found that the post of the tach needle binds against the face of the guage keeping it from moving. See if that's your problem. Good luck!
