Just wondering if anyone has tried removing the glare sheild, and modding the hole to fit a 55w 9006? Since the 9006 is cooler, maybe the reflective coating won't burn off as bad as with a 9005. Also, since the 9006 has the tip painted black, removing the sheild shouldn't cause any problems for on-coming drivers. Any thoughts?

I tried removing the glare shield from an old headlight assembly to see how feasible this was. It was difficult with a pair of needlenose pliers. You run the risk of damaging the good chrome by scratching and gougeing. Check this thread as well as numerous others on headlights.
