Messge System-Memory R.ecall Off

When I turn on the ignition on my 98 MarkVIII the message "MEMORY RECALL OFF" appears on the message display. The OFF button on the door panel is lighted. If I depress #1 button the message then reads "DRIVER 1 SETTINGS RECALLED" and the little light goes out. Can someone tell me how to re-set the system so that Driver 1 settings are recalled (or saved)when I start-up the car. Its probably something simple but I can't zero in on it. Joe

Hello,

If you've got your owner's manual the instructions are in there. If not let me know & I'll check it out in mine. I imagine the functions are the same although mine is a 96. It's supposed to recall the settings, and position the seat when you use the remote to unlock the car. Try it, and watch the seat when you unlock it with the remote.

check the back of the remote, there is an on/off switch that activates the memory

I believe this is only supposed to happen when you unlock the door with the keypad or the key itself. I think it only recalls settings 1 or 2 if you unlock the doors with the remotes, (at least that seems to be how mine works).
