Just in case anyone decides to update their mouse to the wireless variety. I was recently given a new one for a present and when I tried to install in, I got "Error 1101: Error reading from the file C:\windows\temp\_IString of random characters\1033.MST Verify that this file exists and that you can access it." Damn!
To make a long story short, I found a fix in the Microsoft Knowledge Base. If your Microsoft installer msi.dll is ver 2.0.2600.2, the installer needs to be deleted (from a DOS prompt). Then reinstall the mouse s/w and the proper msi.dll will be loaded. I followed their directions and it worked. Oh, I'm still on Window 98, but apparently it can affect Windows ME (not many there I don't suppose).
Nice to have an untethered mouse - if you know what I mean... Glad they don't call it a rat!
