RE: More things to do in Chicago
Regarding the pink Mark at Volo Museum. Yes, the car DID belong to Candy Heiress Helen Brach and yes, she is "missing" ~ however, the museum has been mis-representing the car as was the prior owner from whom they purchased it. They are representing the car as a Special Paint Made By FoMoCo and factory made for Brach. This is simply not true!
One can click onto the photo shown under the link and then view other photos for proof of this. By clicking onto the ENGINE photo it can be seen that this vehicle has black hood springs and arms, as well as a black firewall and black radiator support structure(s). This car left Wixom Assembly plant as a black car, with white leather interior. More than likely the selling dealer repainted the car, or another source did the paintwork. Even the under hood is black! Had it been factory done, the underside of the "pink" hood would certainly had pink paint on it ! (The wheels are aftermarket as well the whitewalls).
My 1986 Mark VII was indeed factory painted in 1959 T-Bird "Flamingo" and the process used by Ford for decades has been the dip method, where the entire car, sans interior & motor & chassis is dipped into the paint. This being so, said car herein would bear a color matching firewall, radiator support structure, hood springs & arms.
It's certainly a decent & interesting car in fantastic condition, but to represent it as FACTORY SPECIAL PAINT is misleading. I'd like to see the color of the inside of the doors with the door panels removed, or under the carpeting under the seats. (Of course it's black, since it was a black car.) By the way, when they re-installed the "continential" (after painting) on the headlamp door, they forgot where it had been, and placed it too high up.
