Mounting Speakers

I just got my door panels, so i will be starting this project soon. My question is, how should I mount the speakers? I have a Kicker Resolution 8" Mid-Bass, Kicker Resolution 6.5" Mid-Range and tweeter component set.
Im really trying to decide if I should make a pod for the 8" and the 6.5" and mount that to the door so that it fits through a cutout in the door panel, or if I should just re-enforce the panel a little bit and build the speakers right into the back of that. The tweet will be going in the stock position.

Just from the fact that mounting to the door would be more solid, i would think i would also get better sound. Let me know what you think.

RE: Mounting Speakers

If you are going to build a pod, you might as well build a kick panel pod. Place the 6.5 and the tweet there, and the 8 in the stock location (if it will fit....it all depends on the mounting depth).

I dont really have a whole lot of extra room down there and i dont want my passengers stepping on my nice new speakers, never mind actually getting my size 12 feet into the drivers side. Thats why abought the extra set of door panels. The 8" doesnt fit anywhere, which is the biggest problem.

RE: Mounting Speakers

yeah, i was planning on tearing those panels apart pretty good. I have come up with a pretty good design, and an easy line to cut out on the door panel. As of right now, it looks like im going to make a pod to attach to the door frame and have a cut out in the panel that the pod would fit though.

Thanks for offering your help, you might be hearing from me!

RE: Mounting Speakers

if youre gonna make pods in the doors, make sure u align them properly to make a proper stage height to get the most out of your speakers. ive been told that im missing the majority of the potential beauty my speakers are capable of with the way theyre mounted. do it right the 1st time.

RE: Mounting Speakers

i know that something called a stage height exists, im just not sure exactly what it is, where it should be or how to get it there. Would someone be so kind as to put me in the know.

RE: Mounting Speakers

i know pony's setup in his ivory car is supposed to be really good. if u cant find anyone here, cal on the other board has alot of knowledge on the subject.

RE: Mounting Speakers

I emailed cal 2 years ago for imaging advice here'e his response

"Stage height should be at horizon level, with something like a choral piece extending above horizon, as they would be in the concert hall, since they're likely to be on risers. Width, pillar to pillar, or beyond, and the vocals should be pushed 'out' towards the front bumper, a good score would be given if the lead vocalist was at or near th base of the windshield. Deduct points for 'bass in back', so work on getting the midbass to play low enough so you can dial down the crossover on the sub, maybe 50-60 Hz, with a good steep crossover."

I'll try to give more details tonight, i have to go to work.
BTW, I will hopefully have pics of my install tonight...
