muffler delete or aftermarket mufflers?

ok i have a 98 lsc and i was looking for a little sound, possibly some more power out of my car. i was looking and i found a few different setups i could go with but on youtube the muffler deletes seem to sound best.. if i just cut the muffler at the weld and put long tips or straight pipes would that give me the sound without removing the resonator? also would that effect my backpressure and cause any damage?

last question is what are the best upgrades for more hp and accel.
e.x. MAF, Exhaust, different air intake setup, injectors, ecu?

You have me confussed. Our exhaust system has 3 cats and 2 mufflers. There are no resonators. But your idea to remove the mufflers is good one. I would have straight pipe welded in place of the mufflers and use the stock tips. If its TOO loud, you and put in straight thru mufflers inplace of the pipe.

The 97-98 doesnt have that.

Best way to fix the drone is to get an X-pipe. Mine dissappeared. Another good way is to raise the cruising rpm's with some 4.10's ;)

Nope, but I still get 24 mpg on the highway. At 70 mph I am reading 2600 rpm's, which isnt that bad.

ok thanks

ok thanks

im gonna just cut the mufflers and put straight pipes w slash cut tips i think, dont know if ill get a better sound with the same size tip as the exhaust or an increasing tip (like a megaphone type sound .. deeper) but ill mess around w. that as i go along.. will that increase hp at all? and what are some other good mods to go along with cutting the mufflers out? thanks for the help

will that increase hp at all?

Doubtful there would be a measureable change in HP output.
by the time the exhaust gasses reach the mufflers you've passed all the real restrictions in your exhaust sytem.

BUT.... when you cut off those stock mufflers, take careful note of how much they weigh.
The two stock mufflers and Y pipe are close to 100 lbs.

By removing them you will decrease the overall weight of your car and increase your HP/Weight Ratio.

Again, it might not be "measurable" but every little bit counts!

I think you will save about 50-60lbs by cutting those mufflers. I doubt it will any HP like Tommy stated. You will get the sound you want while saving a bit of weight, for almost free you can't go wrong.

thx

thx

ok i didnt think so but its ok im doing it anyway, if i want more power ill do a full custom, exhaust later.. thanks

Check with your state laws about running strate pipes. In Texas you can get a hefty fine for being too loud.

Unless you take off all 3 cats, and the resonator ALONG with the mufflers, then you aren't going to be "too loud".

Believe it or not, the Cats are better mufflers than the mufflers are.

You wont fail the "emissions" part of the test, but you might fail the VISUAL portion of the test.

If the inspection tech feels you have altered the exhaust system outside of the legal parameters, they CAN fail you for not having mufflers.

We're not gonna sit here and tell you "you'll be fine", when you are tampering with an exhaust system..which is described fully in the federal emission laws.

ok

ok

ok ill definately have to check about that, if i have to ill put an aftermarket exhaust and a chip from blue oval, i was just being cheap but either way thanks for answering my questions
