My first time at the track!!

I went to Indianapolis Raceway Park last night for the Tuesday night street legal drags. I arrived at 5:00 pm, went through tech and was ready to go racing at 5:30 pm. I got in six passes. My best pass was a 15.028 @ 93.89 MPH. My slowest was a 15.388 @ 93.50 MPH. I had never raced on a real track before. The car was very consistent, the driver was not! The tires were spinning on take off and on the shift to 2nd gear. I left the transmission in drive and let it shift by itself on all runs. I had a great time and will be going again ASAP.

RE: My first time at the track!!

Cool, sounds like you had fun. I ran a 15 my first time out as well.

RE: My first time at the track!!

This was with the newly installed FRPP Center section with 3.73 gears. I also have recently installed a new driveshaft and had the transmission completely rebuilt, to include a new torque converter. I was speaking to some people last night who were also racing there last Tuesday. They said their times were lower than usual due to slippery track conditions. I will go again in a week or so and see if there is any difference.

RE: My first time at the track!!

Ok, how do I ask this. Ok, I have heard that a stock mark VIII will run low 15's at the strip, in Drive, with "average" traction. It hasnt been unheard of to dip into the high 14's. Of course, that is during cool, ideal conditions. I am in Calif, and will be running my 94 stock Mark VIII at Infineon raceway soon, and I have been told by other members that I should expect low 15's, and if Im lucky, high 14's. I have plenty of 1320 experience, so I am pretty sure there wont be many driver errors. I'll let you know. My question is; were you spinning pretty bad off the line?

RE: My first time at the track!!

I was spinning from the start. I am using old BFG Comp TA's, 255/45ZR17's. I was told by a couple people the track was slick that night. I can keep coming up with excuses. I think the real problem is the driver!!

RE: My first time at the track!!

Not to hijack the post, but i was wondering what times should i get or if i should even run my car. I'm on Bf goodwrench G-Force TA KDW 245/40/20zr and the car is lowered with some extra work done to the suspension. the engine is stock with 153000 miles on it. What do you guys think? just for i to know if its just the rims that slowing it down or me? the rims weigh 60 pounds each... THanks...

RE: My first time at the track!!

wow. 240 lbs of unsprung weight. thats like putting a tow hitch on your car, and hooking up to a trailer. I would have to say that not only are the rims slowing you down, but the tires as well. Big tires weight more than small tires. every pound counts. I hope your goal is appearence, not performance.
