My sweet trunk install

haha, just kidding. try not to vomit on your keyboards http://burns.thefinaldimension.org/otn/other/pukeface.gif

Here's an overall view of the trunk. You can see the subs firing upwards in the home made box, and then I mounted the amps and such to the extra wood from the box.

Yep, the crossovers are mounted to the carpet trim. (originally, the amps just slid around in the trunk before I mounted them to the board.)

Pic of the RCAs coming out from the carpet.

Everything is very sturdy, the board hardly slides at all (maybe about 1/2 inch of movement in any direction) and the box fits very snug in there (it doesn't move at all)

BUT, my trunk is close to useless, it looks pretty cheap, the subs would probably sound better in a different box/different spot in the trunk, and so on. I want to find a better place for the amps obviously, but their size makes it tricky.

Oh well, sounds 10x better than stock anyway! :)

RE: My sweet trunk install

Looks pretty cool, but try to hide those wires. You could drill some holes and run the wires underneath the board.

RE: My sweet trunk install

what a coincidence, ive been working on my trunk as well. right now, mine is very temporary and i plan to do a final in the next week or so. ive gone back to the single sub and its freed up all kinds of space. tonight i didnt have to endure the smell of my hockey equiment in the back seat. right now ive got the amp racks and box duct taped to the carpet since i couldnt find anymore velcro in the house. like i said its all temporary.

RE: My sweet trunk install

try mounting those amps on the bottom of the bpard sop you at least have some spance i nteh trunk to put things. If they start to overheat a bit put a push pull fan system on it. I do not thing you will have a problem though,

RE: My sweet trunk install

Why not just put one amp on the front of the box and the other on the back of it? Or mount them both on one side if they'll fit.

RE: My sweet trunk install

That is a nice way to go for show - but I took down the factory amp bridge and modified it to house to amps and all the distributer blocks. They cant be seen and no thief is going to get to them unless they get the car. I wish I took some pics, but if anyone needs help getting that bridge down, I can do it with my eyes closed.

RE: My sweet trunk install

I'll probably try to get them mounted on the factory amp bridge, or in a similar fashion. I rarely need to put anything in the trunk, but it would be nice to know that I could. It would also be nice not to have to smell my hockey equipment on the ride home from the rink :)

edit: Jeremi, now that I can see the pic, that way wouldn't work very well. The Kicker amp is about 23 inches long, and the PPI is about 17. Too big to fit there nicely in my opinion.

RE: My sweet trunk install

That's pretty sweet! I think I should be in the market for a new sub, but I like the way it sounds. So many people have got on me because of my 10" Bazooka tube with the rockford fosgate woofer - lol! But it produces that bass sound I like. Believe it or not that thing can take a beating.

i know that smell all too well. pretty much the main motivation for me to get to work on the trunk. let me tell u, its great to have trunk space again. it started to rain last night on my way back and it was no problem rolling up the windows and cranking the ac.

RE: My sweet trunk install

My temporary trunk install is also mostly complete, just needs some carpet or fiberglass. Everything is mounted in the spare tire well and can be covered by the cover t oprotect it, and to carry groceries, :). THe kicker 800.4 is towards the front on a riser so it is *just* below the tire cover. THe ampman revolution 1500.1 is behind it, and a 23 degree angle. Behind that where the arch of the well is, are my 4 crossovers and fused digital distrobution block. The XO's and on risers on either side level with the amp in front of it. The distro block is between them, but a few inches lower, and has a nice digital read out of my voltage. All wires are hidden and it looks pretty darn good, aside from the fact I haven't covered it yet. I have a cheapo disposable camera I'll see if I can get some pics taken this weekend.

Unless I add more amps the rack will prolly stay like that for a while (except I want to swap the 800.4 with wither a 800.2 or something from kicker's SX line) However the big ol sub box will be leaving soon and I going to attempt to put a 15' XXX on the rear deck in IB form, which will take some serious reenforcment (sub weighs 65 pounds)

Get some pictures of those door panels too! I think all of us are eager to see them :)

RE: My sweet trunk install

That is whap I idid with my PPI amps. Slid enclure under rack, 4 carriage bolt through bottom of elosure and floor of trunk. Used factory sound dedening cut away from behind seat behind enclosure and put cardboard cover that used to cover amp rack and back of seat to rear of enclosure and exposed amp rack. Still able to get to spare, and looks stock. Deep enough trunk to make it seem as though nothing is there.
